About the Role
In order to achieve its ambition of serving (phone number removed) Fellows over the next decade, Braven is hiring a Senior Accountant who will help the organization maintain fiscal responsibility by ensuring exceptional internal controls and tight month-end close processes. This role will own the month-end close and general ledger workstreams, and have an opportunity to create new or improved Finance policies and processes that will help us reach our ambitions.
This role is on the Finance team and reports directly to the Assistant Controller.
What You’ll Do
General Ledger &
Month-End Close Process(70%)
Manage accounting activities of the organization and ensures compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
Perform monthly closing journal entries and support or lead all other monthly, quarterly and year-end close processes
Support the annual audit, including preparation of year-end closing, prepare balance sheet accounts analysis;
prepare and post year-end journal entries
Review Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll transactions;
ensure accurate synchronization of payroll and accounts payable in Intacct, our general ledger system
Ad Hoc Reporting (20%)
Prepare financial reports for month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close, as well as for grant reporting and ad-hoc reporting, in coordination with the External Affairs team and other Finance teammates
Own the year-end 1099 filing, audit and 990 project management, and annual filings in coordination with our third party preparers, ensuring we have a clean audit and meet filing requirements
Support all other accounting related functions as needed, and additional duties as assigned
Process Improvements (10%)
Maintain Braven’s accounting-related systems, including Intacct, Expensify, and (url removed), plus collaborate on system improvements for Salesforce, Martus, and others as needed
Streamline inefficiencies within the organization;
develop systems and processes that minimize the amount of effort required by staff to complete administrative tasks such as timesheets, expense reports and invoice processing, while maintaining airtight internal controls
Develop, maintain, and train non-finance staff on fiscal policies and procedures
Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
At least 3 years of experience in Accounting
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and principles and auditing practices and principles
Preferred Qualifications
At least 1 year of experience in the non-profit field
Highly skilled in math, accounting, and financial processes
Solid understanding of GAAP and applicable regulations
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to notice and adapt quickly when conditions change
Success independently gathering relevant data, information and perspectives to make an informed decision
Clear ability to manage complex projects by prioritizing the most important work, breaking projects into actionable steps, paying close attention to detail and keeping work organized and up-to-date
Excellent communication skills, choosing the right avenue and time to convey information
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to be approachable and authentic with others, to understand the perspectives of others, and to build trust and cooperation among peers

Compensation and Benefits
The salary for this position, which depends on prior work experience and our assessment of your demonstrated fit for the role, will likely be between $65,200-$81,500 in Atlanta, $68,600-$85,700 in Chicago, and $75,500-$94,300 in New York/Newark. Braven offers competitive base salaries based on the midpoint of the market among not-for-profit organizations of similar size, with opportunities for salary growth over time. We believe in compensating staff members fairly in relation to each other, their qualifications, and their impact on behalf of the organization, and take internal and external equity seriously. Given our commitment to equity, Braven does not negotiate salary offers;
instead each salary offer is determined carefully using external and internal benchmarking. You will have an opportunity to discuss salary in more detail after you begin the application process.

Location
We gather in the office at least 3 days per week (on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) and often work remotely 2 days per week (although certain commitments might adjust that from time to time). Therefore, this role requires teammates to live within commuting distance of one of our hubs:
Atlanta, Chicago, Newark, or New York City. We believe in the magic, connection, and collaboration that happens when people work together face-to-face and we believe in giving people flexibility to focus, balance personal priorities, and save themselves two commutes per week.
