Physical/Cognitive Details:

The Video Content Specialist plays a pivotal role in driving the visual storytelling efforts of Imagine Black Futures and our affiliated organization, Imagine Black. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of video and audio content creation to support the organizations' initiatives and missions. The role involves creating high-quality video and audio content production, executing audio and video shoots.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in camera operations and video editing, coupled with a keen eye for visual storytelling. They will collaborate closely with internal teams to develop and execute a comprehensive video content plan aimed at engaging audiences in civic learning and advocacy efforts. This position combines artistic talent, technical expertise, and composition skills to capture, produce, and edit video that will provide a visual story on a given topic as assigned.
Based at Imagine Black's Portland office, the Video Content Specialist enjoys a hybrid work arrangement, with the flexibility to work both in-office and remotely according to the organization's work plan and requirements. This role presents an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful social justice impact through creative multimedia content.
ESSENTIAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Video Production (50%)
Establish a video production plan with Imagine Black/Imagine Black Futures’ Creative Division.
Lead the planning, execution, and post-production of video shoots and photo sessions, ensuring a consistent, high-quality output that resonates with our audience.
Direct visual content creation, including scripting, storyboarding, capturing footage, storytelling sessions, editing, and final production.
Capture, edit, and produce video and audio. This includes trimming shots, editing content to specified lengths, and assembling segments in a way that presents a story with maximum effect.
Optimize videos for distributable formats within specified platforms and web hosting marketing zone targets (Black Possibilities App, Instagram, Buzzsprout, YouTube, Vimeo, etc.).
Direct and produce live streams using Ecamm Live software to Black Possibilities App, Instagram, Zoom, YouTube, etc.
Providing live stream technical assistance during live events.
Review video content for quality control and make corrections.
Shoot video and record audio at the Center for Black Radical Imagination (Portland, OR) or offsite in Oregon when needed.
Track and evaluate web analytics for online video content.
Produce videos using pre-existing scripts, pre-existing videos, and visual resources.
Suggest technical video content ideas to help staff achieve desired outcomes.
Manage video project timelines and meet deadlines consistently.
Visual Content Strategy (15%)
Collaborate closely with communications, graphic designers, and other teams to understand content needs and translate them into compelling visual narratives.
Maintain visual consistency and adherence to brand guidelines across all video and audio content, ensuring it reflects the brand’s identity and values.
Lead the review and approval process for all video and audio deliverables, providing a space for constructive feedback to maintain high standards and brand alignment.
Create organizational-specific video overlays, background sound, and other graphic elements to enhance visual and auditory impact.
Resource Management (10%)
Provide digital asset management, including uploading and cataloging audio and videos, maintaining the database, and setting governance standards.
Manage the video and audio equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and use.
Troubleshoot technical camera issues.
Staff Education (5%)
Train staff members on how to capture video assets that can aid in the success of the campaign's goals.

Requirements
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum three years of experience in a field such as video production, camera operation, and video editing This experience may be met by volunteer activities or internships.
Proven experience in content management, particularly in video editing and live streaming.
Proficiency in live stream optimization techniques.
Proficiency in Adobe Premiere or equivalent video editing software
A passion for the mission and vision of Imagine Black, which includes electoral organizing, advocacy, and organizing.
A passion for how self-determination and radical Black imagination can directly influence policy.
Proven skills working and communicating with communities within the African diaspora, especially with descendants of enslaved Africans, African immigrants and refugees, and Caribbean immigrants and refugees.
A commitment to applying a BQF lens (see above) to organizing, leadership development, and civic and political participation.
Ability to self-motivate, self-direct, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Proficient computer skills.
Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Ability and willingness to travel within Oregon regularly (around 3 times per quarter).
Must be willing and able to work evenings/weekends about 2-3 times per month.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in lighting for video production, live audio, studio lighting grids, live broadcasting, and design for video graphics.
Bi- or multi-lingual.
Lived experience with Black community issues, particularly in the Portland, Oregon metro area.
Extensive knowledge of live streaming software.
Experience working with the press, as well as with social media and email communications.
Knowledge of political landscape on local and state levels.
Comfortable with Google applications, MS Office, Asana, Slack, and similar systems.
