About the Callaway Energy Center
The Callaway Energy Center is a nuclear facility located in mid-Missouri. The Energy Center has more than 800 employees and contractors working at the facility, and it has established a strong record of safe operation throughout its 30-year operating history. The Energy Center is a highly efficient, low-cost, sustainable source of electricity for Ameren Missouri's 1.2 million customers.
About the Position:
This position manages, plans and prepares shipment activities of radioactive materials which includes waste to ensure Callaway Energy Center is maintained and operated safely, reliably and cost competitively.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Provide oversight and guidance for radioactive material and waste shipment activities.
- Observe and ensure that all shipping of radioactive waste is completed in accordance with all applicable regulations in a save, accurate, timely manner.
- Ensure alignment of Radiation Protection procedures with current and emerging regulatory requirements;
change procedures and associated software to maintain compliance.
- Support and provide expertise to the Radiation Protection training program, to ensure compliance with changing guidelines and regulations impacting radioactive materials and waste shipping.
- Provide guidance to leadership for Radiation Protection capital allocation and cost control.
- Provide expertise and mentorship to Radiation Protection Technicians in implementing radioactive waste management programs.
- Provide expertise to leadership and regulators on matters related to implementation of radioactive materials management programs and policies.
- Manage and approve radioactive shipping manifests/documentation as the agent for the Company.
- Develop and monitor performance indicators;
Continuously improve programs and processes through corrective action, self-assessment and other programs.
- Support and participate in the Emergency Response Organization and perform other duties as directed by leadership.
Qualifications:
- Must meet one of the following requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in health physics or a related science field and 5 years of relevant experience (e.G.:
Radiation Protection/health physics, Rad/Chem, nuclear operations, engineering, etc.), OR
- Associate degree in health physics or a related science field and 7 years of relevant experience;
OR
- High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years of relevant experience.
- A master's degree in health physics or a directly relevant discipline may be considered in lieu of one year of experience;
a doctorate degree in health physics or a directly relevant discipline may be considered in lieu of two years of experience.
- Must be qualified (or qualify within 6 months of hire into role) per NRC I&
E Bulletin No. 79 19, "
Packaging Transport and Burial of Low-Level Radioactive Waste"
(required).
- Prefer prior experience and qualification as Radwaste Shipper.
- ANSI 3.1 qualification is preferred.
- NRRPT Certification of ABHP Part 1 is preferred.
In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
- Excellent organizational skills and decision making, high level of attention to detail, and good communication and coordination skills.
Additional Information:
Ameren's selection process includes a series of interviews and may include candidate testing and/or an individual aptitude or skill-based assessment. Specific details will be provided to qualified candidates. The Radwaste Shipper works a standard day shift in an office/plant environment. Callouts and working rotating or Outage schedules may be required to support plant operations and departmental functions. On-call duty periods will also be required to support the Emergency Response Organization. If end date is listed, the posting will come down at 12:
