The X-Ray Technologist is responsible for performing radiography (x-ray) examinations on patients while adhering to radiation safety protocols. This entails preparing patients, positioning them correctly for imaging, and ensuring the technical quality of images. They accurately enter and monitor patient data, conduct quality assurance checks on equipment, and assist with accreditation applications. In the event of accidents or equipment malfunctions, they promptly report incidents to management. The X-Ray Technologist may also handle emergency calls and administer diagnostic tests as necessary. They provide support for patient registration tasks and prioritize safety, compliance, and professional development. With a focus on patient education and care, they review orders, administer contrast agents, and closely monitor patient conditions. They ensure equipment readiness, troubleshoot malfunctions, and accurately perform imaging procedures, demonstrating a commitment to excellence in patient care and safety. The minimum qualifications for this position include graduating from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology and holding relevant certifications in Basic or Advanced Life Support and Radiology.
Principal Accountabilities:
Radiography Exams:
Perform radiography (x-ray) examinations on patients while strictly adhering to radiation safety protocols. Properly position patients for imaging, select appropriate imaging techniques, and obtain high-quality images.
Patient Data Management:
Enter and monitor patient data accurately and efficiently, ensuring compliance with documentation and record-keeping standards.
Quality Assurance:
Conduct routine quality assurance checks on radiology equipment to maintain optimal performance. Collaborate in the accreditation process to meet compliance requirements.
Incident Reporting:
Report accidents, complaints, and equipment malfunctions promptly to management, following established protocols.
Emergency Calls and Diagnostic Testing:
Handle emergency call duties within the department and administer diagnostic tests as required.
Patient Registration Support:
Assist with patient registration tasks, such as verifying insurance coverage and updating patient information, to ensure efficient operations.
Safety, Compliance, and Professional Development:
Prioritize safety, compliance with policies and regulations, and ongoing professional development.
Patient Education and Care:
Review orders, administer contrast agents, and closely monitor patient conditions. Provide education to patients regarding procedures and equipment.
Equipment Preparation and Maintenance:
Prepare imaging equipment and supplies, ensuring adherence to safety standards. Address equipment malfunctions promptly to minimize disruptions.
Imaging Procedure Execution:
Ensure precise patient positioning and accurate execution of imaging procedures. Analyze imaging results and report any issues promptly. Transmit and report scan results accurately for timely patient care and treatment decisions.
Requirements
Education:
Graduation from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
Licenses/Certifications:
Radiology License.
Certification in Basic or Advanced Life Support (BLS/ALS) required.
Registered Radiology Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-R) required.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and maneuver patients with assistance.
