Job Description
This is a high-level correctional management position as a Deputy Commissioner. An employee in this class will be responsible for directing all operational aspects of the correctional institutions. Supervise the major segment of the department and maintain contact with other city officials and court and criminal justice system agency representatives to ensure interagency cooperation in coordinating program development and implementation and resolving common problems. The work is performed under the direction of the Prisons Commissioner.
Essential Functions
The Deputy directs daily operations of the prison facilities through subordinates.
Responsible for touring the correctional facilities and ensuring compliance with established standards of security, housekeeping, and maintenance.
Develop an analytical, operational plan for the operational function, including mission, goals, and objectives, to guide activities.
Confers with subordinate supervisors and managers on the unit activities and problems and reviews departmental policies.
Plans, develops and implements changes in procedures, training, and deployment of staff.
