Salary:
$65,000 - $70,000 + Benefits
Overview:
Reporting directly to the General Manager, this leader will manage the engineering and maintenance operations of a hotel to ensure the safety and comfort of guests and employees. This position is the top Maintenance/Engineering role in a small to medium-sized hotel, supervising a small maintenance staff and manages a range of facilities including food and beverage outlets and meeting spaces.
Responsibilities:
Financial Returns
Monitor and control departmental budget and expenses.
Participate in preparing the annual operating budget and financial plans.
Establish procedures to secure inventory and assets, replenish supplies efficiently, and minimize waste.
People
Recommend or initiate HR actions such as salary adjustments and disciplinary measures according to company policies.
Ensure staff training and provide necessary tools and equipment.
Educate employees on safety issues to comply with all laws and regulations.
Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication with other departments.
Guest Experience
Respond promptly and courteously to guest questions, complaints, and requests.
May determine security requirements and manage third-party security firms as necessary.
Responsible Business
Collaborate with corporate managers, engineers, and contractors on renovations and other projects.
Manage daily departmental activities, plan work, and schedule employees for proper coverage.
Maintain and repair hotel facilities including buildings, rooms, equipment, HVAC, and swimming pools.
Ensure execution of the hotels preventive maintenance program.
Interaction with External Contacts:
Guests:
Ensure total satisfaction.
Vendors:
Manage inventory, pricing, and service issues.
Contractors:
Obtain and review bids.
Regulatory Agencies:
Address safety and compliance matters.
Other contacts as needed:
Professional organizations, community groups, local media.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Some college or advanced vocational training.
Four years of experience in general building maintenance or construction, including supervisory experience.
Hotel experience preferred.
Professional certification and licenses as required by law.
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to carry, lift, push, and pull items weighing up to 100-300 pounds.
Frequent standing, handling of objects, and moving about the facility.
Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and crawling.
Expertise in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry fields.
Level 3 EPA Certification, HVAC and refrigeration certificate, licensed plumber, and/or journeyman status for electrician and carpenter may be required.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Strong mathematical skills, including budgeting and profit/loss concepts.
Problem-solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational, and training abilities.
Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
