Job Description
Associate Director Facilities and Site Services is responsible for multiple functions within Site operations including laboratory facility management, scientific services, and oversight of IFM services at R&
D facilities in scope. The primary goal is to provide and maintain a high-quality regulatory compliant campus in the health care industry in the most efficient, safe, and cost-effective manner. In doing so, the role must interact with individuals from all levels and disciplines within the corporation on issues including facilities engineering, facilities operation, financial planning, site strategy, and scientific services. Other significant issues addressed by this individual on a frequent basis include (but are not limited to);
facility maintenance, interactions with corporate real estate and landlords for leased facilities, contract service provider relationship management, evolving regulatory requirements and community relations.
Responsibilities:
The Assoc. Director of Facilities and Site Services has direct responsibility for all related functions at the Worcester and Cambridge sites. At the sites they have direct responsibility for facilities services inside multiple primary buildings. He/she has indirect responsibility for R&
D facility maintenance and site related issues through the long-term lease agreements set up with landlords. This department is responsible for both daily operations 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.
Overall management of the Worcester and Cambridge Sites facilities including direct responsibility for non-MEC floor space. Additionally, this individual has the authority to enter into contractual agreements with outside sources as required to meet departmental goals.
Responsibility also includes indirect support for building external maintenance and site related issues. In total, facilities and scientific services are provided to over 500 AbbVie scientists representing multiple therapeutics in the R&
D portfolio. The role also acts as Supplier Relationship Manager for IFM provided services where deployed.
Regulatory compliance is a critical part of this role. Maintain and ensure compliance with all sitewide federal, state, and local site operating permits/licenses including air, water, waste, radiation, rDNA, controlled substance, ATF, animal housing, quality, and more. Responsible for the operation and continual evaluation of all building infrastructure to assure scientific services, personnel safety, and all State and Local Code requirements.
Responsible for the development and management of an operating budget to support the operations of the facilities and scientific services for the sites.
Utilize leadership skills to effectively provide direction to staff and contract employees who provide service 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Overall responsibility for the planning, estimating, and scheduling of all work activities for work groups. Work directly with Section Managers to develop necessary management competencies, skills, and abilities. Represent facilities in compliance audits conducted by corporate and outside regulatory agencies.
Responsible for the Long-Range Planning associated with facility related repair, upgrade, and rearrangement projects. Manage outsourced Facilities Services IFM contract(s) including scope management, service level attainment, monthly cost reconciliation and annual true ups. Failure to adhere to quality or operational procedure standards could result in product quality issues, product loss and substantial costs.
Serve as key point of contact for upper management of the many organizations represented on the campuses. Provide innovative solutions to occupants for issues related to facility and scientific service operations to meet changing business needs.
Provide representation as Facilities Services on various Standards Committees and Centers of Excellence to assure operational requirements are addressed in all standards.
Work with site and senior leadership to develop action plans in response to corporate audits and regulatory citations related to facilities and associated support systems.
Serve as R&
D Site Emergency Coordinator in the event of site security and safety issues, power failures and other emergency events.
Develop/manage maintenance programs for facilities designed to assure operational effectiveness and appearance against established standards.
