Job Description
Position Summary
Under general direction, the Telecommunications Technician Supervisor supervises related subordinate personnel in the installation, repair, replacement, maintenance, and termination of city-owned fiber optic and wire communication systems and equipment.
Position Responsibilities
Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of subordinate personnel engaged in the installation, repair, replacement, maintenance, and termination of city-owned fiber and wire communication systems and equipment;
visits job sites, inspects work in progress and upon completion to assure compliance with job requirements.
Estimates cost of voice, data, and inside/outside plant fiber optic installations, determines the size of the job, labor, and materials needed.
Supervises subordinate personnel including recruiting, training, and evaluating the performance of subordinate personnel according to job requirement standards and general discipline guidelines.
Supervises subordinate personnel troubleshooting complex problems by testing, diagnosing, and repairing malfunctioning communication systems and equipment, enforcing existing methods and procedures.
Plans and conducts safety training meetings to ensure safe utilization of tools and equipment by subordinate personnel following safety codes and guidelines.
Prepares quotes, project status, and performance measurement reports, correspondence, and related documents using computer software such as word processing and spreadsheets.
Performs other duties as required.
Appointment Type:
Temporary Provisional.This is not a permanent appointment. A provisional appointee must participate and be successful in a Civil Service examination for this classification and be selected through an open competitive process in order to be considered for permanent appointment. Provisional appointments may not exceed three (3) years.
Work Location
The incumbent will report to work at the Department of Technology,(200 Paul Avenue, San Francisco CA 94124). However, the majority of the work is at various City buildings and sites throughout the City of San Francisco as necessary. The incumbent will need to travel to those sites.
If hired, the incumbent must be a resident of or relocate to the State of California within 4 weeks as a condition of employment.
This position does not support remote work.
Nature of Work
Incumbent must be willing to work a 40-hour week, full-time. Work time is 7 am-3:
30 pm as determined by the department. May be required to work the swing shift (3 pm-11 pm) and graveyard shift (11 pm-7 am).
