Pay rate:
$27.35/hour
Position Purpose:
Under general direction of a superior, performs skilled mechanic work in the maintenance and repair of wastewater treatment equipment, such as motors, gear boxes, auxiliary generators, plumbing, heating and piping systems, pumps, diaphragms and valves. Operates welding and cutting equipment and machine lathe. Assists Electrical Maintenance Supervisor as needed. Performs related work as required.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Ability to perform skilled mechanical tasks independently.
Ability to work from sketches or blueprints.
Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
A thorough knowledge of materials, methods, and techniques of the mechanical trades.
Skill in the use of machine tools and equipment.
Some skill in the use of welding and cutting equipment.
Working knowledge of the methods, and equipment of the Water Pollution Control Facility.
Maintains the water treatment equipment by performing periodic calibrations, scheduled oil changes and lubrication, alignment checks, and wear and tolerance checks.
Determines the sources of equipment failure and decides on the most effective solution to get it back in service as soon as possible.
Deals with hardware and plumbing suppliers, electrical suppliers, machine ships, bearing dealer, electric motor repair and sales, chemical feeder suppliers and oil distributors.
Instructs the Operators in the proper operation of all treatment equipment and minor maintenance or adjustments.
Maintains a personal computer database file on every mechanical item at the treatment plant, booster stations, and wells to keep track of service due dates and have a detailed history of equipment performance.
May assist in other areas of the plant as directed.
