What does your role bring to the table?

The Vice President:
Accounting and Controller plays a significant role in the future of Snooze! This role reports to the Chief Financial Officer and will protect and grow the amazing Snooze culture by leading both the Payroll and Accounting Teams with daily, monthly, and annual financial requirements and compliance, in addition to leading various projects to help improve the existing processes and procedures. Responsibilities include managing the annual audit, reviewing and preparing account reconciliations, researching technical accounting issues, and improving general accounting activities. This role will prepare the Snooze accounting team for future growth, scalability, and alternative financial structures. This position will also be responsible for maintaining great relationships with all our restaurant teams, taste-testing delicious breakfast, and having fun!

The Position specifics!

Taking on the role of Vice President:
Accounting and Controller isn’t just about bacon and pancakes. The responsibilities of this position include:

Accounting responsibilities

Ensuring internal and audited financial statements properly reflect compliance with GAAP and stay current with changes in accounting pronouncements and all required compliance
Oversee all accounting operations including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and payroll.
Responsible for timeliness of the period-end close process including balance sheet reconciliation review, as well as performing variance analysis and presenting to the senior leadership at close meetings
Maintaining a high level of integrity and accuracy of the financial statements
Evaluating and update current processes and procedures to ensure team thrives in a high-growth environment
Reviewing and maintaining internal controls with an understanding of any gaps to SOX compliance
Manage the annual external audit process and oversee all audit activities
Leading potential due diligence process or initial public offering preparation
Participating in insurance renewals for health, property, general liability and workers’ compensation ensuring proper plan design and monitoring economic impact
Managing and assisting with, the day-to-day accounting transactions, including preparation and posting of certain journal entries and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts
Mentoring and developing direct reports on the accounting team, including training and giving work direction, as well as supporting other indirect reports
Ensuring the timely and successful completion of the company's tax filings with external preparer as well as preparation of the annual income tax provision
Manage the treasury function, including cash forecasting, covenant reporting and relationships with bank partners
Partnering with the FP&
A department on annual planning processes and period budget updates
Coordinating the business and license registration for new jurisdictions
Oversee the implementation and management of financial systems and software.
Ensure the integrity and accuracy of data in financial systems.

Payroll Responsibilities

Overseeing and ensuring the accuracy of three weekly payroll cycles
Mentoring and developing 1 direct report on the payroll team, including training and giving work direction, as well as supporting multiple indirect reports
Manage the communication and cross-function between payroll and accounting
Collaborating with the People Team on compliance with laws, as well as existing and potential benefit offerings and pay structures
Ensuring the timely and successful completion of the quarterly tax filings and W-2 processing by external preparer
Coordinating the business registration for new jurisdictions in line with company growth
Continuously look for ways to automate and streamline payroll functions

Strategic Leadership Responsibilities

Coaches, develops, leads, inspires, and motivates direct reports and manages the workflow of the Payroll and Accounting Team
Developing and communicating a strategic vision for the department as the company grows
Build and maintain cross-functional relationships with other department leaders in both the restaurant support office and in the restaurants
Spearheading other tasks and duties as assigned to meet Snooze’s business and operational needs

Let’s talk prerequisites! (Education, credentials, and experience)

Must be authorized to work in the United States
10+ years of related experience in progressively responsible accounting roles, including a combination of public and industry-specific required
3+ years managing a payroll department of a multi-state organization required
5+ years of leadership experience, including leading a team of multi-discipline direct reports required
CPA License required;
CMA would be considered
Previous merger and acquisition experience and/or public company experience is required
Extensive understanding of GAAP, including issues relevant to the restaurant industry, SOX compliance requirements, and experience/proficiency in researching technical accounting issues preferred
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting, finance or other related field preferred
Relevant restaurant industry experience preferred
Multi-state and multi-unit experience preferred

Must have the stamina to work 45 to 55 hours per week
Minimal travel required
Home base is in Denver, CO at the Snooze Mothership (flexible and remote work schedule optional)

The Nitty Gritty Details

Denver area base salary range:
$190,000-$220,000 (bonus and equity eligible)

The base salary range above represents the low and high end of the Snooze salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Snooze’s total compensation package for employees.
