St. Luke’s School, a secular (non-religious), college-preparatory day school serving grades 5 through 12 in New Canaan, Connecticut, seeks an Upper School theater teacher and director. A successful candidate will join a team of passionate theater educators known for their creativity, professionalism, and collegiality. This is an exciting opportunity for a creative individual to contribute to an .
The individual in this role will teach the following courses:
Acting I &
II (intro level semester-long courses)
Advanced Acting (a year-long college-level performance based course featuring an ensemble of about 10 students)
In addition, this individual will direct 4 shows:
an Upper School fall play, an Upper School winter musical, and two plays staged by the Advanced Acting class. The fall play and winter musical are staged in the Seldin Performing Arts Center, our state-of-the-art, 480-seat proscenium theater with full sound and light capability and with the support of a robust technical crew composed of faculty, staff, and students. The two plays performed by the Advanced Acting class are staged in our second, more intimate fully-equipped performance space, the Wyckoff Family Black Box Theater. The titles for 2024-2025 have not yet been selected. In addition, the person in this role produces the Spring Cabaret for Upper School students.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Teach Acting I, Acting II, and Advanced Acting
Plan and run daily rehearsals for the co-curricular Upper School shows Monday-Thursday:

Run weekly production meetings
Collaborate on &
develop the production team’s vision.
Communicate with the production team throughout the theater season
Draft rehearsal schedules;
communicate with parents.
Run auditions &
Tech Week.
Contribute to title selection for subsequent season
Guide colleagues through awards selection and plan student participation in outside awards events
Serve as a co-advisor for 6-8 students.
Key Skills and Qualities:
A college degree in theater and/or theater performance is preferred.
Creative flair and ability to work with a variety of different personalities and departments.
Experience working on productions with high school students.
The enthusiasm and patience required to instruct and inspire young performers.
Exceptional organizational skills
Strong cultural competency skills and a demonstrated commitment to furthering the creation of an equitable and inclusive school community that supports a deep sense of belonging
