Recruiting Heroes is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Survey Managerto join our client's team in Richmond, Virginia
Job Summary:
The Survey Manager is a professional licensed surveyor responsible for overseeing a site and directing crews on survey tasks associated with engineering and construction projects. Additional duties include preparing proposals, contracts, and reports;
consulting with clients;
preparing right-of-way plans;
performing field work;
and drawing/drafting maps. The survey manager will be responsible for conducting field surveys and recording data of marked utilities after they have been located using various electronic tools. They will also be cross trained in utility locating consisting of marking surface, subsurface, and aerial utilities including gas, water, sewer, phone, power and CATV lines. Monday Friday travel is required depending on where the work is located.
Job Duties &
Responsibilities:
Management
1. Management of project managers, field staff, CADD operators, and administrative staff.
a. Maintain sufficient and qualified staff including hiring and firing when necessary.
i. Communicating staffing needs depending on upcoming workloads
b. Conduct performance evaluations.
2. Project and contract management
a. Proposal creation/oversight
b. Attend kick-off / scoping meetings, perform fee negotiations.
c. Coordinate staffing and potential workshare opportunities with other territories.
d. Provide professional review/judgement.
i. Sign and seal project documents with professional certification when necessary.
e. Contract preparation, management, compliance, and problem resolution.
3. Accounting
a. Prepare pricing recommendations when applicable.
b. Assist with preparation and review of invoices.
c. Work with EVP and CFO to evaluate pertinent financial information.
i. Budgets, forecasting, profit / loss management
4. Business Development
a. Maintain positive relationships with current and potential clients.
b. Evaluate potential client and market targets for business growth.
c. Attend conferences.
d. Participate in professional organizations.
e. Give technical presentations.
f. Participate in interview presentations for contract selection.
Survey
1. Provide daily supervision of assigned survey field crews on quality and survey methodology, including training and mentoring of junior level employees.
2. Read and interpret plans such as site, boundary, highway, profile and cross sections, horizontal and vertical curves, pipeline, and foundation plans.
3. Lead the process of collecting field data to produce positional information, i.E. leveling, traversing, stadia, topographic mapping, interpreting control point records and data sheets, locating points in the field, and implementing staking and marking strategy.
4. May provide contractors, crew, and clients with a detailed description of the land features and characteristics.
5. May need to research the history of the land for legal records, survey records, land titles, or other information about the property.
6. The Survey Manager may also be locating utilities.
7. Follow the standard operating procedures for:
a. Field Targeting
i. Locating
ii. Targeting
b. Field Sketching
c. Test Hole Documentation
8. Correct use, technique, and maintenance of all survey and locating equipment.
9. Work with branch SULM to manage and oversee crews and projects, ensure QA/QC procedures and accuracy of data.
10. Follow correct administrative procedures.
11. Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
General
1. High proficiency with data collectors and total stations.
2. Proficiency in the CI/ASCE 38-22 Standard/willingness and ability to learn.
3. Ability to read and understand maps, records, and plan sets.
4. Working knowledge of Excel, Word, PDF editor.
5. Must have good communication skills (verbal and written) and attention to detail.
6. Ability to listen to, understand, and follow directions. Ability to delegate directions correctly.
7. Ability to remain flexible as specific assignments change.
8. Ability to work with a variety of personalities.
Skills &
Experience:
Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor, Associate or certificate in Survey or related field.
2. PLS, LS or PSM licensure (at least one state).
3. At least 3 years experience in management/supervisory role.
4. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
5. Must have a valid drivers license and a clean driving record.
Valued but not required skills and experience:
1. PLS, LS or PSM licensure in multiple states preferred but not required.
2. TDS data collection and Eagle point experience helpful but not required.
3. Utility systems, mapping, or surveying experience helpful but not required.
4. Utilities or construction experience highly desirable but not required
