Job Description
The Surgical Services Inventory Control Coordinator is an integral part of the hospital's Materials Management team. The SSIC Coordinator is responsible for the procurement and other contracting support activities for the Department of Surgical Services including tracking and ordering inventory, budgeting, selecting and storing supplies, equipment and instruments.
The Coordinator is required to adhere to corporate policies, provide strong customer service support, review department purchasing requests, and insure that pricing is reasonable and competitive. The Coordinator is also responsible for inventory control activities within the Operating Room suite. The Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Materials Management Manager.
Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age, culture, ethnicity, and specific individual diagnostic needs of the patients served in his/her department. He/she must be able to assess and interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s specific needs and provide the care needed by the patient group (pediatric, adolescents and/or geriatric patient group, culture and diagnostic specific).
Consistently expresses and demonstrates compassion and courtesy for patients. Extends courtesy and support to patient's families/visitors.
Proficient with all MMIS Modules.
Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office applications.
Proficient with entering new OR supplies into the IPATH database.

Exhibits excellent customers service skills and communicates the mission of University of Maryland Rehabilitation &
Orthopedic Institute when working with internal and external customers--particularly when fulfilling purchasing and supply chain needs.
Minimizes supply chain disruptions through clear and effective communication with hospital departments and outside vendors.
Works collaboratively with the Materials Management department and with other hospital staff--especially with the Director of the Operating Rooms.
Supports departmental initiatives as a fully engaged team leader.
Leadership, Clinical and/or Technical Skills:
Acts as a liaison between Materials management and other hospital departments--particularly the OR Nursing Staff.
Proficient in the use of the MMIS including the 'Inventory Control,' 'Receiving,' and 'Stock Reorder' modules.
Inputs new OR supplies into the IPATH OR Management database. Also adds them into the MMIS.
Purchases all stack and non-stock supplies--including capital equipment--for the Surgical Services Department.
Reviews purchase requisitions for appropriateness, manages draft purchase orders, and reviews and closes 'killed' purchase orders.
Other duties as assigned.
Quality and Patient Safety:
Responsible for monitoring product recall notices for the OR supplies. Implements hospital policy when a recall is applicable to the ORs inventory.
Cost EffectivenessResearches product information. Contacts vendors to verify pricing, availability of the product or service, quantity, and delivery date.
Education &
Research:
Monitors the compliance of vendor's sales staff working within the OR. Verifies the vendor's 'Status Blue' requirements are within compliance.
Conducts in-service education for new products, policies and procedures for Materials Management staff.
Attends training sessions for any updates the Materials Management Information System.
