JCC Greater Boston, Camp Grossman is seeking a Unit Head! Are you someone with natural leadership abilities? At Camp Grossman, the Unit Head leads the unit, setting the tone and managing administrative tasks while offering compassionate support to 90+ campers and 12-25+ staff. Sounds amazing? Unit Heads are expected to meet and train a few times as needed before June so they are ready to then run much of their unit’s Orientation, which takes place the week of June 17th and ends with Visiting Day (a pre-camp visit for all campers and families to meet staff) on Sunday, June 23. The regular camp season begins June 24 and ends August 16 (with the option to work the following “9th Week” for additional pay). The camp day usually runs from 8:
15 AM - 4:
15 PM, Monday through Friday, with 3 staff meetings on various Monday evenings (and others as needed). All staffalso work 1 or 2 additional family nights or overnights, depending on their position in camp.
This role is similar to a small camp director, where you would build strong relationships with staff and campers. Responsibilities include:
Ensure the safety and well-being of campers
Train and supervise junior and senior counselors
Mentor counselors in training
Create activity schedules for camper groups
Issue prevention and troubleshooting
Communications with campers, staff, camp leadership, and parents
Create a fun/joyful dynamic
Work in partnership with peers and Camp Leadership to provide a happy, safe, and memorable experience for campers in structured and unstructured time
Support campers throughout the day
Lead activities
Create a unique, communalatmosphere in the unit
Administrative work, as required
Requirements
College degree or equivalent
Experience with young children and supervising young adults. Able to train staff on how to work with children.
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC’s discretion to meet minimum criteria.

Leadership skills and ability to build strong relationships with campers, co-workers, and camp leadership, while managing situations effectively and diplomatically
Models maturity, reliability, flexibility, and patience
A love of children and a strong desire to make a difference every day
Strong organizational, teamwork, and relationship-building skills. Proactive mindset.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills - comfortable speaking with parents/guardians - listening, discussing and resolving issues
Excellent supervisory and collaborative relationships with direct reports
Committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of campers
