Job Description
AECOM West Region Strategic Communications Group is looking for a senior-level Strategic Communications Specialist III to lead public involvement and community engagement on major transportation projects in the planning, design and construction phases for clients.This role will be a hybrid position including a combination of both remote and in-office scheduling that can be based in, but not limited to:
Grand Junction, CO;
Denver, CO;
Colorado Springs, CO
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Serving as Public Involvement Task lead on projects with strategic communications needs.
Communicating directly with client as a lead worker.
Collaborating with Design and Planning Project Managers and office management staff on projects requiring public involvement and community relations.
Creating Public Involvement Plans and helping project team strategize on best practices and risk communications.
Guiding the preparation of documents and materials for use in communications.
Leading implementation of stakeholder engagement and communication strategies.
Planning logistics and facilitating public meetings, workshops, open houses, focus groups, pop-ups, stakeholder meetings and other community outreach events, both virtually and in-person, as well as evaluating and selecting venues and vendors.
Coordinating with other AECOM and client staff to prepare graphic displays and layouts for public information.
Engaging and informing stakeholders, communities, and residents on public or private projects in-person and/or virtually, or through written materials.
Exercising sound judgment when communicating with internal and/or external clients or customers.
Developing presentations for meetings with various stakeholders within a client’s brand guidelines.
Providing acute attention to detail in the development and tracking of stakeholder communications.
Ability to understand technical project information, develop an outreach strategy related to that information, and oversee the tasks within that strategy to execution.
Managing the drafting of content for e-newsletters, stakeholder communication, fact sheet and exhibit content, and other materials as needed. Providing guidance and QC on materials produced.
Management and QC of summary support for documentation of stakeholder meetings and public events.
Other tasks as directed by the client to support public involvement during projects underway in the community.
Previous Public Involvement/Community Outreach Experience preferred. Ideal candidate would have PI/CE experience in equitable engagement for multi-modal projects such as light-rail, bus rapid transit and shared pedestrian/bicycle trails.
Significant experience managing multiple projects with multiple tasks and deadlines.
Confidence in ability to manage, delegate, and QC work products from sub-discipline contributors (graphic designers, technical writers, social media content developers, etc.) to ensure that the overarching strategy is maintained, all deadlines are met, and all work products meet client standards.
Managing production-level staff from AECOM, subconsultants and the client.
Understanding the technical skillsets of contributing staff to determine and assign the best team for a specific strategy or task.
Assists clients with media outreach as appropriate.
