POSITION DESCRIPTION:
A standardized patient (SP) is an individual trained to portray a specific patient case in a consistent manner. Standardized Patients are generally healthy lay people who have been trained to portray a real patient's case in a practice or testing situation. The SP is trained to present a patient history and physical symptoms. The word "
Standardized"
means that the standardized patient repeats his or her story in a consistent manner in each student encounter. During an interaction with a student, the SP presents the case history in response to questioning by the student and/or undergoes physical examinations at the student's direction. At the end of the encounter the SP provides constructive feedback to the student.

CLASSIFICATION:
Staff, Part-time, Hourly (non-exempt)
SCHEDULE:
Sporadic depending on faculty need. Events generally occur between 7:
30 AM and 5:
30 PM weekdays and can be either ½ or full day.
Reporting to the Simulation Program Administrator, this position is a part-time, hourly and entry level position, contributing to the daily work of the medical simulation program.
GENERAL DUTIES:
Simulate individuals in both clinical and non-clinical scenarios for teaching and/or assessment activities
Simulate all aspects of a scripted scenario in a standardized, accurate, and realistic manner
Participate as the patient undergoing a physical examination for medical students to practice their skills;
this will include recalling and/or recreating the medical history, personality, emotional structure and response pattern of an actual patient
Provide constructive feedback to learners guided by a template
Complete detailed assessment tools accurately, consistently, and as trained by the simulation team
Must be open to on-going constructive feedback regarding performance from the simulation team and incorporate changes/adjustments as needed
Adapt to quick changes and work in a dynamic environment
Maintain confidentiality with all students, cases, training materials, and assessment data
Participate in sessions/activities that will be videoed and/or reviewed by faculty and simulation center team and observed live through an observation room and/or recording software
Participate in training as needed
Allow learners to practice physical health assessment techniques repeatedly and be comfortable with learners requesting gown/drape adjustments similar to a visit to the doctor’s office
Observe and remember learners’ behavior for accurately evaluating their competencies
Other duties as assigned may include:
Assist with the setup and return of lab to pre-event condition and salvage reusable supplies
Operate video recording software as needed and simulation technology during simulation sessions
Assist with recording software setup for events
Assist with video recording of educational and instructional activities
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to read and write
No experience necessary;
prior experience with acting or role-playing is a plus
Experience working with computers
Experience working with zoom or similar tele-conferencing platforms
Ability to access a computer for email, communication and scheduling
Reliable transportation required
Must be authorized to work in the United States
Must be local to the Orlando, FL area.

Ability to be flexible regarding scheduling and assignments
Ability to complete a computerized survey to score student encounter
Must be able to sit or lie down for up to 30 minutes at a time
Ability to document legibly using writing instrument
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Should be able to move step up and down from an exam table and quickly change from a gown to clothing.
