The Engineering Geology group of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, motivated, talented Staff Geologist for immediate employment in the Oakland, California office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of geologic processes and will learn how geologic conditions can impact design and construction of large projects. Incumbent responsibilities:
- Will conduct geologic and geomorphic mapping
- Log exploratory borings during drilling and collect soil and rock samples
- Install monitoring wells, inclinometers and other instrumentation
- Provide fieldwork oversight of subcontractors
- Evaluate exploratory test pits and trenches
- Conduct geophysical surveys and other in situ testing
- Observe and monitor construction activities for large civil projects (e.G., tunnels, dams, pipelines, bridges, levees, highways, and building foundations)
- Prepare boring logs, data analysis summary, generation of subsurface cross sections and profiles, and report writing
- Assist with developing and managing tasks from budget and proposal preparation, development of the work plan, overall task coordination, coordinating and overseeing a variety of investigation techniques
- Will work in the field on large construction projects to verify that design requirements, recommendations, and intent are implemented during construction
- Will work on engineering geology and civil engineering projects that require evaluation of geologic site characteristics through various methods of mapping, drilling, trenching, and geophysical surveying
