Job Description
Capacity Planning team is responsible to plan equipment/tools needed at the required target buffer levels at both Captive and Non-Captive sites to support Business Units within Western Digital. Capacity Planning team is also responsible for coordinating and finalizing the overall flash backend capex.
This Capacity Planning role requires the candidate to work closely with Factory IE teams, CM (Contract Manufacturer) Operations, Manufacturing Product Engineering/Test Engineering &
Memory Product Solutions (MPS) to position the required assy/test capacity across all sites (Captive &
CM’s) to support the demand outlook. The candidate will also drive consensus across all teams regarding Controller &
Wafer level Test Capex for all products.
Valuable experience will be gained by working, organizing, and driving overseas factories to meet planned capacity goals.Candidate must be able to quickly understand the current business processes and demonstrate high analytical and modelling skills to solve the problems. Moreover, the candidate must have a demonstrated capability to assess mutually exclusive demands to formulate an optimized solution which will provide the capacity needed to satisfy current and future product demands. Demand changes occur weekly, forcing the candidate to constantly adjust previous plans to meet changing requirements.Flexibility and creative thinking are critical to success in this role and in the Capacity Planning Group.
Role Responsibilities
Maintaining and updating the advanced planning system i2 with accurate capacity modelling inputs to ensure high confidence output that will be leveraged to make capacity/capex decisions.
Creating, modelling new or understanding and maintaining existing mathematical models (based on excel, Python etc) to support CAPEX (capital expenditure) decision making
Hosting &
Coordinating troubleshooting meetings &
exercises to resolve capacity constraints
Proposing different ideas to reduce the overall CAPEX (capital expenditure) spend by optimizing on hand equipment while meeting the company’s demand at the required buffer level
Presenting CAPEX requirement analyses and recommendations to senior management on a monthly cadence
Contributing to strategic and operations decisions involving process redesigns, equipment modifications and tooling change
Driving throughput improvements in the factory by performing detailed analyses optimizing production output for various demand scenarios
Work with other Capacity Planning team members to understand the current business procedure and propose improvements/Automations which will help to improve the quality of the analysis and reduce the time taken to do the analysis.
Drive meetings with MPS, Manufacturing PE, CM Operations, POM and factory IEs to drive test time reduction initiatives, test program/PN readiness, optimize overall capex spend, wafer level equipment readiness
Drive efficiency on the functional processes through Automation
