The Staff Certification Engineer performs regulatory compliance oversight activities required for ensuring the development and installation of airborne equipment and systems onto transport category aircraft comply with applicable requirements. The Staff Certification Engineer has principal responsibility for ensuring all aspects of product and system-level certification are compliant with applicable and appropriate airworthiness requirements including the review of all substantiation data deliverables for Airbus.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure a robust interface with the Authorities (FAA, EASA, etc.) and customers’ (Boeing, Airbus, etc.) airworthiness functions
Develop, review, approve and release the Certification Plan (strategy) and Certification Accomplishment Summary to show compliance with the applicable airworthiness requirements including, but not limited to:
Flammability, Installation, and Safety
Work with, but remain independent of, the design team to ensure adherence to the certification strategy
Work with the Certification team to manage and review all compliance documentation prior to release and submittal to the Authorities or to the customer
Report certification issues or Test status to the Authorities or to the customer
Participate in design reviews and other compliance demonstration activities
Regularly advise the design and certification teams on the applicability of regulations and Means of Compliance
Coordinate regulatory approval of IFE system installation design data and components
Ensures consistency in compliance demonstration documents
Ensures the integrity of the conformity inspection process
Perform Airworthiness technical assessments, audits and training
Provide the necessary Airworthiness input to the MRB process
Act as the Airworthiness focal for in-service event assessments and analysis
Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience in a related field
9+ years of experience working in a related field
Experience with designing, manufacturing and certifying aircraft components and systems
Experience working in product or system-level certification environment
DER experience highly desired
5+ years of experience working in the PMA process
In-depth knowledge of industry-standard RTCA and airframe manufacturer qualification requirements
Strong familiarization with FAA Part 21, 23 &
25 and EASA CS Part 21 &
25 certification requirements related to airborne IFE equipment
In-depth working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Ability to work and communicate with customers and airworthiness representatives
3+ years of experience in a technical leadership role
In-depth knowledge of the following:

Temperature and pressure chambers
Vibration and Acceleration test equipment
EMI test set up and wiring
Feedback devices such as accelerometers and thermocouples
Airframe manufacturer requirements for cabin interiors
FAA 14 CFRs and EASA requirements, including flammability
HIC
The STC, RFC, PMA and Minor Change approval processes
AS9100 quality system requirements
Benefits
The starting pay range for this position is $112,000 to $149,000, however, base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge, and location.
