Job Description:
This Staff Accountant position is responsible for assisting the Controller and General Accountant with the preparation of monthly financial statements, management reports, tax related work, and the annual financial audit.
Prepare journal entries and perform complex and detailed reconciliations and accounting close processes with an emphasis on travel and entertainment, tax deductibility and taxable fringe benefits.
Prepare and file various tax-related reports, business license renewals, and conduct annual projects such as unclaimed property.
Audit expense reports for compliance with company policies as well as ensuring the appropriate G/L coding for GAAP and tax deductibility purposes.
Set up and maintain non-trade vendors, collect W-9s from vendors, and prepare and file annual 1099s.
Assist with the year-end financial statement audit as well as materials provided by client for tax purposes.
Qualifications:
Minimum of Associate's degree preferred;
5+ years in a fast-paced accounting department with demonstrated ability to reason through accounting concepts, tax rules, and other issues. Specific General Ledger experience and/or formal classroom accounting training a plus.
Strong Excel skills required.
Ability to understand accounting transactions and computer software applications.
Strong attention to detail is necessary as well as the ability to understand complex concepts.
Ability to prioritize and organize multiple responsibilities and adhere to deadlines.
Ability to work with confidential information.
Clear verbal and written communication skills.
Work independently and as part of a team.
