job description

Job Description
The Sr. Director of People Operations is a key leader of the Galileo People Team with the opportunity to rethink the way the team executes its people operations. You are passionate and excited to solve big workforce management challenges in the context of a seasonal summer camp business, which operates in more than 80 geographies and hires more than 2,000 summer staff within a five month period each year. In this role, you will help design and build a scalable people operations system that ensures staff are quickly and effectively hired and onboarded, have an exceptional employee experience from application to offboarding, and are set up for success to start their roles at camp.
Reporting to the SVP, People, you are an operator at heart and adept at integrating the needs of multiple stakeholders and priorities and translating that into systems and processes that work both for our summer staff and our internal HQ teams. You are people-centered, a systems thinker, and deeply believe in the need for collaborating with others and across multiple teams to get to the best outcomes.
YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR
People Operations and Summer Staff Experience
Manage and design the Seasonal Summer Staff journey, to ensure an efficient and engaging process from offer signing to the last day of camp, including streamlining the onboarding processes and communications to guide new hires in completing necessary tasks promptly.
Envision, design and build a People Operations System that ensures seamless integration across all People processes and platforms to support our unique business context and future growth. This will span talent acquisition, onboarding, payroll, performance management, and employee engagement.
Evaluate and lead the selection and customization of new technology tools where necessary. Manage vendor relationships across the different HR platforms on the People team.
Lead and design a strategic and thoughtful staff engagement plan from application to offboarding.
Manage a small but mighty 2-4 person team of year-round and seasonal people operations staff.
People Analytics and Reporting
Refine our people analytics approach, including progress monitoring and reporting, and measuring the efficacy of processes and systems to help the team make data-driven decisions on performance.
Create a reporting system that drives actionable insights within the People team and across the organization.
Summer Staff Onboarding
Ensure more than 2,000 new summer staff are effectively onboarded and excited to start their role with campers. This requires an adaptive approach to address blockers, implement redesigns, and communicate changes and decisions across key teams.
Collaborate with the Talent Acquisition team, People Services (HR) team and Field Operations team to design a thoughtful and engaging onboarding process that also ensures compliance with all relevant employment laws and regulations.
Uphold Galileo's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and actively seek out opportunities to promote these values across all your work.
YOU ARE
You are inspired by Galileo’s mission and purpose. Innovation education, project-based learning, and working in a professional, welcoming, camp-inspired culture sound like things you’re ready to sign up for.
An operations self-starter and innovator. You aren’t afraid of a complex or ambiguous challenge, are motivated by simplifying structures and systems whenever possible, see solutions that others may not yet, and feel responsible for getting things done.
A proven operator at scale. You have a deep understanding of what it takes to build sophisticated systems across multiple users and platforms at scale that effectively leverage technology, processes and human capacity to drive results and an exceptional user experience. You are adept at both getting into the weeds and pulling up at a strategy and vision altitude to understand what needs to happen at a system-wide level to move things forward.
A great partner (and thought partner) who communicates openly and honestly, sharing and building upon diverse perspectives. You incorporate input from across functions and organizational levels, and have a knack for keeping everyone moving in the same direction.
An effective team builder. You create the conditions for your team to leverage their diverse strengths and perspectives to achieve shared goals. You celebrate wins, coach staff toward success, and foster an environment where innovation and collaboration can thrive.
