ORGANIZATION
The mission of Shining Stars Montessori Academy Public Charter School is to offer a quality Montessori education infused with culturally inclusive principles to guide children to develop to their fullest potential. The vision of the founders of Shining Stars Montessori Academy is one that seeks to alter the educational outcomes of children living in Washington, DC, thereby positioning them for future success. In keeping with their mission, they strive to nurture the genius of all the children who come through their doors, guiding them in the principles of the Montessori approach.
Founded in 2008 and approved in 2010, Shining Stars Montessori Academy Public Charter School is housed in a 28,000 sq. ft+ former Howard University building, complete with its first gymnasium/auditorium, first play space, small garden, library, parking for staff, space for 300 + students and staff, and a fresh sense of potential. Led by Executive Director Dr. Regina Rodriguez-Garcia, the school has over 50 staff members, and an enrollment of approximately 220 students.
Shining Stars Montessori Academy Public Charter School is the only Montessori Public Charter School in Washington, DC dually accredited by the American Montessori Society (AMS), and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

OPPORTUNITY
Shining Stars Montessori Academy Public Charter School (SSMA) seeks a passionate and experienced educational leader to serve as its Principal and will report to the Executive Director. This individual is responsible for fostering a thriving Montessori school community, ensuring academic excellence for all students (Pre-K 3 to Grade 6), and leading the school's strategic instructional vision.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Responsibilities of the Principal include:
Leadership and Vision
Champion the Montessori philosophy and ensure its authentic implementation.
Partner with the Executive Director to develop and execute the school's strategic plan.
Lead the instructional team in creating a high-performing learning environment.
Establish clear school-wide expectations and promote a positive and inclusive school culture.
Instructional Excellence
Oversee curriculum development and implementation aligned with Montessori principles and state standards.
Recruit, retain, and develop a talented faculty with expertise in Montessori education.
Design and deliver professional development programs to enhance teacher effectiveness in all grade levels, including early literacy instruction.
Analyze student data and utilize results to drive continuous improvement in academic achievement for all subgroups.
Ensure compliance with AMS and all other relevant educational standards.
Community Engagement
Build strong relationships with families, fostering open communication and collaboration.
Partner with the Community Family Association (SSMACFA) to develop and implement engaging family and community outreach programs.
Cultivate a positive school image and contribute to the surrounding community.
Requirements
In order to fulfill these responsibilities, the ideal Principal candidate will have:
Master's degree in Education or a related field (preferred), or Bachelor's degree with significant leadership experience (required).
Minimum 3-5 years of successful teaching experience in Montessori and/or traditional classrooms (Pre-K 3 to Grade 6).
Montessori Administrative Credential (preferred).
Principal licensure (preferred).
Strong understanding of the science of reading principles and best practices aligned with Common Core State Standards.
Demonstrated experience in leading and developing a quality Montessori program.
Proven track record of improving student achievement in diverse learning environments.
Effective communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Valid teaching license and administrative licensure (or eligibility) required.
A commitment to equity and inclusion.
Experience with Montessori leadership training (preferred).
Fluency in Spanish (preferred).
Benefits
This position offers a competitive salary range of $125,000 - $133,000, and a competitive benefits package including tuition assistance, health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, 401(k), and paid time off. More details can be provided upon request.
