Mission of Role/Position Summary:
The Shelter Support Staff, Registration Worker is responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient registration of all shelter residents. This role involves greeting residents, managing check-in and check-out processes, maintaining accurate records, and providing residents with essential information about available services and resources. The Registration Worker will coordinate with other shelter staff, ensure compliance with shelter policies, and adhere to health and safety protocols. This position requires a high degree of empathy, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:

Ensure that all shelter residents are greeted and registered upon arrival.
Maintain a system for checking residents in and out when they leave for any period.
Manage the system of record keeping for shelter registrations.
Provide residents with information about available services, resources, and shelter rules.
Direct residents to appropriate shelter staff or external resources for additional support.
Coordinate with other shelter staff to ensure smooth and efficient registration processes.
Ensure compliance with all shelter policies and procedures during the registration process.
Follow all health and safety protocols to protect residents and staff.
Ensure proper shelter identification is worn when conducting shelter and operation work by all on-site.
Seek guidance from supervisor as necessary and appropriate.
Maintain a professional appearance and attitude.
All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience with following and executing program protocols.
High degree of empathy.
Experience working and learning within diverse teams, and a commitment to effectively serving a diverse client population.
Ability to assess emergency situations and respond effectively.
Comfortability with quick pivots/adjustments in program processes.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, strong Excel skill is preferred.
Outstanding organization and ability to work independently in fast paced environment.
Able to drive in daytime and at night
Able to work outdoors in inclement weather, extreme heat and/or humidity and/or extreme cold.
Able to function in a dynamic and stressful environment with little or no supervision,
Adapting to change, negotiating compromise, and tolerating ambiguity.
Able to participate and contribute to regular meetings.
Must have active listening skills.
Able to work well with others.
Expected Hours of Work:
Schedule may vary and require work on evenings and weekends and dependability and punctuality are paramount.
Schedule may require 12-hour shifts/7 days per week for initial response period.
Travel Requirements:
Up to 25% travel is expected for this position.
Must be willing to travel and deploy to client sites for extended periods of time.
Physical Demands:
Mobility required on-site with clients.
Sitting or standing for hours at a time.
Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time if needed.
Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. repetitively throughout the day and as needed.
Able to bend or stoop multiple times.
Able to step up/down 18 inches and climb two or more flights of stairs.
Working Environment:
Client site.
Work may require work in austere locations and various weather conditions.
Work may be on-site with clients ex:
EOC, hospital, debris sites or local government buildings.
Requirements
Experience/Education Required:
High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
Two years of experience in human services or healthcare.
Two years registration/administration experience.
Minimum of one year of customer service related experience.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated abilities to work with complex regulations and issues.
Computer Proficiency with experience using Microsoft Office.
Excellent collaboration skills as well as the ability to work independently.
Previous experience working in customer service is required.
Sensitivity to cultural differences present and strong desire to help and make a difference.
Experience/Education Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree in emergency management, human service or relevant field.
Experience working or volunteering in a Shelter. Emergency Management Experience.
Shelter staffing/registration/intake experience preferred.
Bilingual in (Spanish/English and able to read, write, and speak proficiently in both Spanish and English.
Additional Qualifications:
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Eligibility to work in the United States without employer sponsored visa is required. We are not able to employ those located outside of the US.
Must pass company and any applicable client background check and reference check upon offer of employment.
