Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist who will lead efforts to design, execute, and communicate novel multi-disciplinary research in a highly collaborative neurotoxin discovery program. The Senior Scientist will be an instrumental team member of the Toxins Innovation Group in Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company, based in Irvine, CA. The candidate will be responsible for planning, designing, implementing, and executing experiments to advance the development of new molecules for pain indications. The candidate must have in-depth working knowledge of neuronal cell-based assays and animal models of pain. He/She/They will be required to independently propose, design, and execute strategies while demonstrating exceptional troubleshooting skills. The candidate will independently organize, analyze and interpret results and make project recommendations. He/She/They will provide scientific leadership as a subject matter expert and provide feedback and guidance to a team of protein expression/purification, biophysical characterization, cell-based, and in vivo scientists. The candidate will also communicate and present his/her projects and results in team meetings and reports. He/She/They will collaborate extensively with other Research Scientists and Associates, while taking personal responsibility for the success of assigned tasks and projects.
The position requires the individual to work with and in areas requiring select agents and toxins access (i.E. Biosafety level 2 laboratories). Access to and use of select agents is regulated by federal policies. Therefore, the candidate must conduct all work activities in compliance with AbbVie internal and applicable regulatory requirements. AbbVie internal requirements include compliance with ethics, environmental health and safety, financial, human resources, and general business policies, requirements, and objectives.
Key responsibilities:
Characterization of MOA and identification of new therapeutic indications for pathological pain. The successful candidate will be responsible for effectively progressing novel Pain related compounds through preclinical evaluation in an exciting, fast-paced team environment.
Contribute to the development of translatable animal models.
Formulate and administer novel therapeutics to rodents.
Generate detailed and accurate reports of study outcomes.
Actively participate on cross-functional teams and provide support to other groups and external departments. Openly share scientific expertise and collaboratively help the team to formulate rational solutions to problems.
Develop protocols, train staff, and maintain the laboratory consistent with departmental and company requirements.
Maintain a good and current knowledge of the scientific and technical literature pertinent to the project and necessary for development of state-of-the-art analytical methods, including the acquisition of necessary equipment.
Analyze and present results to multidisciplinary teams, prepare technical reports and contribute to driving strategy.
