Responsibilities
At SmartNews, we are building the future of news — a future where delivering quality information enriches and informs. We do this while working with partners and supporting a sustainable news ecosystem through mutually beneficial publishing partner relationships. The Technology team is responsible for frontend and backend engineering, design, product, infrastructure, advertising, AI, safety, and observability. We are responsible for delivering experiences that help SmartNews live up to its name. Our product teams deliver our experience to customers on iOS, Android, and the Web.
As a product engineer at SmartNews, you will work on the cutting edge of product development, UX, and AI while leveraging world class infrastructure, ranking, and content. You’ll improve, transform, and grow the news experience for millions of people around the world in line with our mission. You will also be expected to rapidly iterate and learn in a fast-paced, collaborative, and international culture.

Update, improve, transform, and deliver the SmartNews experience on iOS, Android, and the Web
Balance an opinionated, high-speed, and rapid-iteration mindset with the responsibility of meeting the needs of millions of users and internal teams
Learn new skills as needed to deliver the best possible experience on different platforms
Requirements
Minimum qualifications
Web (JS/TS) plus iOS and/or Android front-end product development experience
Demonstrated experience in high speed, rapid-prototyping environments
Personal perspective about what makes products great while also valuing feedback and discussion from customers and teammates
Comfortable navigating high degrees of ambiguity
Must be eligible to work in the US
Nice to have experience
Experience building products that rely on AI, ML, ranking, and/or LLM prompt
Japanese language skills
Experience working in an international and multilingual environment

Compensation range of $175,000~$270,000 base salary, plus bonus and equity.
