Job Description
SF Environment’s Community Partnerships and Engagement Program is hiring a 5642 Senior Community Engagement Coordinator to lead our Environment Now team, develop and lead a volunteer program, and coordinate the Department’s community engagement projects. Environment Now is a grassroots outreach and community engagement team responsible for engaging the public about the department’s programs and supporting residents and businesses with compliance with San Francisco’s environmental policies.
The Senior Community Engagement Coordinator will work closely with all SF Environment program areas to brainstorm, implement, and evaluate community engagement activities and their alignment with the Department’s racial equity goals, covering issues such as zero waste, environmental justice, toxics reduction, climate action, energy, and clean transportation. Training on these subject matters will be provided as needed. Projects will involve collaboration with community-based organizations, volunteers, and other partners. The Senior Community Engagement Coordinator will work to ensure that community initiatives and projects are equitable, culturally competent, and multilingual.
The Senior Community Engagement Coordinator will report to the 0922 Community Partnerships and Engagement Program Manager and will coordinate with a larger outreach team, including staff who work on environmental education, racial equity, marketing, and communications.

Environment Now team management
Supervise the Environment Now team including setting goals, evaluating project performance, and overseeing team and individual professional growth;
Oversee recruitment and training of new Environment Now staff;
Develop and manage Environment Now budget, work orders, and program contracts and grants;
Department-wide community engagement support
Design, implement and evaluate community engagement campaigns and initiatives that target San Francisco residents, businesses, and other audiences;
Coordinate with communications and marketing staff to support outreach requests from other SFE program areas;
Develop an outreach events strategy for the Department, including maintaining a community events calendar, identifying staff and volunteer coverage of events, and supporting SF Environment programs with events planning;
Present campaign and project results to Commission on the Environment and other interested parties;
Building trust in community
Develop a community-based volunteer program, including the recruitment, training, and deployment of volunteers;
Identify and engage community partners, small businesses, SF Environment staff, City Departments, and contractors to collaborate on initiatives;
Gather community input on projects, events, and communications that involve or may impact the community;
Manage relationships with grantees and contractors that are involved in community engagement activities;
and
Represent the Department at City functions and community events, including some evening and weekend events, as needed.
May include additional duties, as assigned.
Supervision Exercised:
Supervises ten staff and multiple contractors, including two Class 5640 Environmental Coordinators (direct reports), three 5638 Assistant Coordinators (indirect reports), and up to five 99-series Trainees (indirect reports)
