Position Overview:
The Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring that employees follow Corporate and project health and safety regulations. The Safety Manager is responsible for continuously monitoring, implementing, training, coaching, and adapting safety procedures and operations to ensure a safe and fully compliant work environment for all employees. Additional duties would include using safety research and best practices to create policies that eliminate workplace hazards, documenting accidents in the workplace and investigating the circumstances of an illness or injury.
Responsibilities:
Provide safety training for employees on policies, regulations, and procedures
Advise the company's Executive Team on safety issues and compliance in specific projects and operations
Analyze incident reports, metrics, and injury case studies in order to institute chances that lead to a safer environment
Understand and enforce OSHA regulations and well as employer and owner rules and regulations on project sites
Review procedures, regulations, and industry standards applicable to the processes, equipment, materials, and procedures used at the worksite in order to evaluate whether hazards are present
Review industry accident and illness statistics, highlighting areas that may affect the organization
Make an analysis of each phase of the project to determine what hazards exist in connection with the procedures, processes, materials, and equipment used to perform them
Conduct regular job site safety inspection of safety construction areas
Document and distribute reports
Maintain, promote, and retain employee hazard reporting forms.
Identify, document and recommend resolution of hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions.
Provide safety orientation for all employees with emphasis on identification, prevention, and control of job hazards.
Issue various permits (i.E., confined space, hot work) as required
Assist with the preparation of site-specific safety plans, fire prevention plans and the preparation of daily job hazard analysis
Provide input to Safety Committee and department leaders for collaboration on safety matters
Provide assistance and updates to department and project management personnel to ensure compliance with all safety related procedures and policies.
Develop and mentor safety engineers and technicians.
Travel to regional offices as needed to provide safety support.
Perform additional duties as assigned
Requirements
Minimum 5 years construction safety experience
Knowledge of current construction and/or industrial safety requirements
Experience in Heavy and Highway, Transit, Infrastructure, and/or Industrial construction.
Thorough understanding and ability to enforce OSHA regulations
Ability to recognize hazardous situations and recommend corrective actions
Ability to investigate/analyze critical situations in a non-emotional manner
Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
Must possess valid Driver’s License
Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Construction Management, or equivalent experience required
CSP certification preferred;

CHST required
OSHA 30 required
5 years of verifiable safety management or technician experience on construction projects developing safety programs, providing safety orientation, and conducting safety inspections
Physical Demands:
Involves sitting, walking, stooping, bending, climbing, reaching and lifting.
Walk jobsites during safety inspections.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in the office or field. Noise levels vary.
Can be day work, night work, and/or weekends.
