Pistils Nursery seeks a friendly, customer service person to join our growing retail team. Our ideal candidate enjoys bringing people together with beautiful plant life. Key Duties
Greet customers and engage with them in a positive, welcoming manner.
Provide exemplary customer service to create an inclusive and safe environment for all guests.
Process POS transactions and process payments with accuracy and efficiency.
Help customers select products and plants that are appropriate for their environment (e.G., light level, maintenance). Go the extra mile to make sure each customer what they need to be successful.
Share product knowledge freely to educate and assist customers.
Employee cross-selling and up-selling techniques to meet or exceed sales goals.
Inform customers of sales, promotions, and rewards programs to build customer loyalty.
Become well-versed in the Pistils aesthetic and product lines. Assist with store merchandising.
Assist daily with cleaning, organizing, and plant maintenance. And help the team keep the store and yard safe and inviting.
Assist in receiving, pricing and product merchandising.
Help attend to the chickens (for Flagship location)
Learn and adhere to business policies and procedures.
Perform additional tasks as needed e.G., sign making, window displays, social media content, workshop assistance and plant art creation.
Position Details
This is a non-exempt hourly position scheduled at an expected 24-40 hours per week with occasional overtime. Reports to the Retail Manager. This role will be scheduled at both of our retail stores in Portland (N Mississippi Ave and NW Raleigh St). Starting compensation is $16.50/hour plus benefits.
Requirements
2 years experience in Customer Service/Sales
Weekend and vacation availability
A team player with a friendly disposition and good communication skills.
Knowledge of plants (especially houseplants) and a passion to learn more.
Ability to lift 50 lbs;
comfortable moving plant material &
using hand truck
Computer experience preferred:
iPad POS system, Google Drive, Google Apps
Willing to work in all types of weather (Flagship location)
Comfortable climbing ladders
Dependable, reliable, punctual
General math skills
High school diploma
Comfortable working alone in retail shops, including opening and closing
Excitement to work in a growing business environment with the potential for frequent changes and at times ambiguity

About Pistils Nursery
Pistils Nursery was founded in 2001 to share the gift of plants with our neighbors in Portland, Oregon from our Mississippi Ave flagship location. Through our twenty years in Portland the vision has grown from seedling to plant and from plant to veritable jungle. We expanded our community nationwide with the addition of our online shop in 2012 (). In 2016, we completed our solarium;
creating an urban oasiswith thousands of indoor plant varieties. We set new roots in Portland’s Slabtown neighborhood in 2019 when we opened the doors to our second brick &
mortar store.
