Job Description
This is an on-call casual position. The RN will be required to provide onsite nursing support for NASA recovery operations. This position may require deployments of 14 days or more in length to sites designated by NASA. The RN will be required to travel to site as directed on short notice. Travel may require flights in fixed and rotary wing aircraft to reach recovery locations.
The Registered Nurse will assume responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating direct and indirect clinical care to patients. She/ he will competently function as a member of the interdisciplinary team to provide patient and community-centered care. She/he serves as an advocate for the patient and their family and intercedes on their behalf by acting as a liaison for patients and their families with respect to their rights and beliefs. The Registered Nurse will utilize their expertise in evidence-based medical practice to manage unexpected and emergent situations and to mitigate and treat a variety of injuries and illnesses in a prompt and professional manner.
B. Key Responsibilities
Assist medical providers with medical procedures and treatments as allowed within the licensed scope of work.
Assessment and documentation of the patient’s vital signs, chief complaint, medical history, and prescribed medications.
Provide Emergency treatment in the field under the supervision of a physician
Report all changes in the patient’s condition to the medical provider.
Proactively and independently administer basic and urgent/emergent care, including but not limited to inserting catheters to control of bleeding, airway management, defibrillation, trauma protocols, blood specimen collection, urine collection, EKG’s, and administering intravenous medications.
Is accountable for maintaining and improving own physician knowledge and skill competence.
Supports the International SOS philosophy, objectives and goals and Organization mission and vision.
Maintains all credentials and certifications
Completes HUET training as required
Respects and supports patient rights.
Fosters constructive relationships as a team member.
Maintains professional conduct.
Supports and enforces infection control policies and procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
