Job Description
Director of Academic Achievement
Will lead KIPP MA’s efforts to deliver rigorous, engaging, aligned, and high quality instruction. The Director of Academic Achievement will demonstrate their expertise and passion for their respective content band in the internalization, integration, and implementation of curriculum, assessments, and instructional practices for teachers and students. This role will be an essential partner to our schools’ Leadership Teams, creating, implementing and moving the salt shaker on a vision for the ambitious instruction/acceleration that all students deserve. This role will also invest, develop, collaborate with, and empower teachers so that all teachers are aligned with the shared vision, knowledge, and best practices that will amplify our children’s potential by creating a school experience that affirms, values, and challenges students each day.
This role requires consistent and reliable demonstration of the following essential job functions and key responsibilities:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Setting and Executing a Content Vision
Develop a vision of excellence for the content area in collaboration with regional academic leaders and school-based leadership
Infuse the essential components into every level so that the subject is always taught in an intellectually honest manner
Invest leaders, teachers, students, and families in KIPP MA’s academic vision and create ambitious implementation plans that ensure students receive the instruction they deserve
Create and develop a path to achieve that vision from our current state
Ensure the vision and all core components are aligned to our evolving understanding of being an anti-racist organization
Deep Understanding of the Content &
Data
Maintain sophisticated knowledge of the content area through the Advanced Placement course level
Stay up to date with current and relevant research
Analyze school wide data in order to design responsive and effective student interventions.
Maintain the pacing of a highly effective instructional curriculum / scope and sequence, in collaboration with principal and assistant principal(s).
Actively continue to develop one's own knowledge of the content area and best practices
Engage in a community of content leaders across KIPP and other charter schools
Disseminate research and key findings when meaningful
Develop Teachers and Leaders
Coordinate and manage creative, inspiring professional development sessions in line with regional goals and priorities, that will develop teacher and leader knowledge of content/best practices.
Empower teachers to share knowledge and best practices across our region
Coach leaders to improve their coaching of content-area teachers
Directly coach/ model outstanding instruction for teachers in order to establish exemplar classrooms through targeted feedback
Collaborate with content teams to unpack units, lessons and assessments;
regularly share feedback
Assist teachers to devise and monitor high-impact support plans for all students to grow.
Lead on Curriculum and Assessment
Direct the interim assessment process to ensure teachers are using current data to drive instruction;
facilitate regular, meaningful interim assessment Data Days with teachers.
Provide guidance in maintaining the pacing of a highly effective instructional curriculum / scope and sequence, in collaboration with principal and assistant principal(s).
Develop personal knowledge of key assessments and plan for student success on those assessments
Analyze school wide data in order to design responsive and effective student interventions.
Use data to tell the story of the growth and achievement of our students
Effectively Collaborate and Communicate
Work collaboratively with the other members of the regional Teaching &
Learning Team
Work collaboratively with school-based leadership across our current five schools and two sites
Be curious about the past practices, current conditions, and interpersonal relationships that impact this work
Communicate with optimism, confidence, openness, and humility
Navigate change management to ensure the quality of instruction in the content area dramatically approves across the entire region
General Requirements and Responsibilities

Participate and engage in regional professional development and community events as required

In addition to the responsibilities listed above, there will occasionally be other duties as assigned that staff will engage in to help promote a positive and safe learning environment and culture
