Reporting to the R&
D Director for the Thermoformed Packaging division, you will be responsible for developing, designing, and qualifying new thermoplastic materials and processes for the client end-use markets. Your role will be pivotal in identifying sustainable packaging solutions for customers by leveraging ideas and technical understanding of new polymer technologies to manage and execute key projects from development to commercialization.
The ideal candidate is required to be an expert in plastics extrusion, thermoforming, and material handling, with a solid understanding of the thermal, mechanical, and rheological properties of thermoplastics. In addition, you will identify growth opportunities for the business and lead projects aimed at increasing productivity, capacity, and efficiency across manufacturing plants.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Serve as a subject matter expert in the processing of plastic materials for consumer packaging.
2. Provide expertise and recommendations on manufacturing equipment required to support the current business needs and enable capability for future growth.
3. Address internal and external customer needs and packaging opportunities in a manufacturing setting.
4. Manage the technical integration of projects by collaborating with internal cross-functional teams, suppliers, and equipment manufacturers to solve complex problems and enhance product performance for customers in a timely and cost-effective manner.
5. Generate new ideas to support the R&
D product innovation andtechnology strategy.
6. Cultivate an environment that motivates and engages others in the R&
D organization to achieve desired results.
7. Foster a positive, safe work environment through open communication and an atmosphere of teamwork.
8. Ensure compliance with company safety policies and procedures to protect all employees.
9. Travel requirement:
Up to 30%, mostly domestic.
Here is what we want to see from applicants:
- At least 7 years of relevant experience with a strong technical background in plastics manufacturing, and processing (such as extrusion, thermoforming, and tooling). Experience in consumer-based food packaging is considered a plus.
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Polymer Science (B.S./M.S.).
- Proficiency in resins, additives, coatings, and laminates.
- Prior experience working in a manufacturing environment with a proven track record of leading capital projects in collaboration with OEMs and suppliers.
