The Project Engineer applies technical knowledge through computer systems, blueprints, takeoff information, management input, and other various tools to plan detailed steps to support every operation to be performed on a drilling and blasting project.
Uses takeoff programs to extract information and computer-generated calculations from project site blueprints to assist Manager in determining the quantity of rock on a given project site.
In addition, this position will perform tasks designated by the Operations Manager. These tasks may include but are not limited to face profiling, bore tracking, drone flights, and engineering pre-blast data using Strayos blasting software.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Understands and interprets, with accuracy, project site blueprints, drawings and maps, scope descriptions, and related documents.
Operates, with precision and speed, specialized, engineering hardware and software that measures and calculates project excavation and construction requirements and determines materials needed in multiple dimensions.
Operates computer systems proficiently. This includes programs such as B2W, Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Viewpoint Spectrum, and others as needed.
Prepare Manager’s bid for loading into ERP (Viewpoint Spectrum) and field tracking (B2W Track) systems.
Perform all duties related to change orders requests for assigned jobs in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner.
Attends in-house pre-construction meetings as well as other job-related meetings as needed.
Maintain a working knowledge of the designated scope of work.
Develop and regularly-maintain project schedule using computerized scheduling software.
Assist to develop and oversee cost effective methods for performing work in the most productive manner. Offer input regarding value engineering. Assist to seek out, identify, and correct project issues in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Possess full working knowledge of equipment, workforce, and material and subcontractor capabilities. Prepare purchase orders and subcontract agreements.
Know and understand application of Trinity’s safety policies to plan for methods to maintain both a safe and productive work environment for all aspects of the project.
Know and understand quarry/mine, project, and local municipality specifications for each assigned job.
Review and approve vendor and subcontractor invoices.
Must be willing to work as a team with both co-workers and external customers.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school degree or GED is required.
Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Engineering, and/or Construction Management is preferred.
Requires at least one year of experience working with site development blueprints and/or blasting plans.
Field experience required.
Requires good working knowledge of drilling and blasting techniques, related equipment, material capabilities and personnel applications.
Requires strong computer skills to efficiently operate previously described systems.
Blasting License preferred but not required.
