Job Description
WEEKENDS OFF! LITTLE TO NO TRAVEL!
The Pipe Layer is responsible for assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains. Ensures ground is prepped and trenches dug out for pipes. Aligns pipes and seals joints together with cement or glue.
Configures pipe routes, cut pipes to required lengths and aligns pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing.
Ensures pipes are fitted and aligned using grade rods or transit levels.
Installs or repairs sanitary or storm, water sewer structures or pipe systems;
Locates existing pipes needing repair or replacement, using magnetic or radio indicators;
pulls out defective or misaligned pipes.
Checks slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers.
Lay outs pipe routes, following written instructions or blueprints and coordinating layouts with supervisors.
Digs trenches to desired or required depths by hand or using trenching tools, slides pipe into trenches and covers pipes with dirt or other material.
Operates equipment, such as pickup truck, rollers, front-end loaders, or backhoes.
Grade or level trench bases, using tamping machines or hand tools.
Inspects places where pipes are fitted together to ensure pipes are spaced out properly and according to specifications.
Taps and drills holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices.
Performs continual maintenance on pipes and replace those needing repair.
Performs other duties directed by Foreman.
