Organization:

The Center for Victims of Torture works toward a future in which torture ceases to exist and its victims have hope for a new life. We are an international nonprofit dedicated to healing survivors of torture. We offer rehabilitation services to those who have been tortured, train partners around the world who can prevent and treat torture, and advocate for human rights and an end to torture. We are headquartered in Minnesota, and we have US offices in Georgia and DC, as well as offices in Africa and the Middle East.

Hybrid (60% in-person, 40% remote) – subject to change
Full/part-time status:
Part-time, 20 hours per week
Pay starts at:
$35.62 per hour
Position is open to candidates who reside in and are eligible to work in the US and will not need CVT to sponsor them on a work visa;
qualified candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to Minnesota
Individual Psychotherapy:
Conduct diagnostic interviews, diagnose disorders, establish treatment plans and conduct individual psychotherapy sessions at a frequency determined with clients. Utilize electronic health record system to complete clinical documentation including progress notes, psychological assessment reports, treatment plans, closing treatment summaries. Prepare treatment plans and other necessary documentation for clinic records and third-party reimbursement needs. Offer written and oral expert testimony related to the psychological effects of torture to support clients’ asylum claims.
Group/ Family Services:
Provide family and systems interventions from a Family Strengthening approach. Support the implementation of new treatment and psychoeducation groups and co-facilitate these groups with program colleagues. Complete associated documentation of services.
Screening:
Conduct initial mental health screenings. Collect history, assess risk, symptomatology and service needs. Participate in eligibility determination meetings to determine acceptance into the treatment program and disposition of cases.
Outreach and Training:
Together, with other clinical team members and ACS staff, conduct and participate in outreach and training activities for the community. These can include psychoeducation sessions, health fairs, as well as consultations with partner organizations including health, educational, employment and social service providers.
Interdisciplinary Team Collaboration:
Work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team context and with staff. Provide input to team members regarding clients’ psychological progress and seek input from others about related treatment needs. Participate in formal and informal case consultation meetings with clinicians across U.S. clinical programs.
Qualifications:
Required education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations
MA, MS, PhD or PsyD in psychology, social work, counseling or other related field
License-eligible as an LPC, LCSW, LMFT or Licensed Psychologist in Minnesota
At least two years of demonstrated experience providing psychological services, including treatment of survivors of trauma
Formal training and experience in clinical mental health assessment, including the use of measures in practice and/or research.
Written and oral fluency in English
Preferred education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations
At least four years of experience providing psychological services, including treatment of survivors of trauma
Licensed as an LPC, LCSW, LMFT or Licensed Psychologist in Minnesota
Demonstrated experience working professionally with refugees, asylum seekers
Demonstrated experience providing psychological services via an interpreter
Bilingual in one of these languages:
Dari or Pashto.

Excellent skills in organization, attention to detail and time management (including the ability to meet deadlines)
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word and Excel)
Interest in or commitment to human rights
Work Environment (subject to change):
Typical office environment for in person individual and group services, home visits for family services, staff home office for tele-health/ remote work
Time spent on the computer is approximately 40%
Time spent in meetings is approximately 10%
Travel to a variety of locations in the Twin Cities metro area
