Job Description
Under general supervision, directs the professional nursing and auxiliary staff of several patient-care units;
plans and directs activities to provide maximum care within the limits of budgetary provisions.
Nature of duties requires sustained physical effort with occasional exposure to minor accidents, health hazards, and/or disagreeable elements inherent in general hospital ward services and patient care.
Examples of Important and Essential Duties:
The essential functions of a 2324 Nursing Supervisor (Outpatient) include, but are not limited to:
Provides leadership and alignment with San Francisco Health Network and/or ZSFG’s goals, mission, and vision to ambulatory care clinical sites
Directs and supervises the professional nursing staff and auxiliary personnel engaged in rendering patient care in various assigned units/departments/divisions;
prepares work schedules, makes assignments, supervises activities, and evaluates work performance
Provides budgetary oversight and ensures compliance with regulatory mandates in all assigned areas
Coordinates services rendered with those of other departments;
checks each unit/department/division to assure compliance with instructions
Provides leadership, guidance, and accountability in assisting specialty clinic leadership to improveteam communications, workflow efficiencies, and overall patient care experience
Participates in educational and in-service training;
directs the procurementof supplies and equipment;
engages in research activities to improve nursing services and patient care
Collaborates with other program administrators and community-based agencies to increase access to health care services
Represents DPH locally, regionally, and statewide on specialty nursing issues
Personally makes periodic routine unit/department/division visits;
confers with nurse managers and staff nurses concerning all new patients;
makes bedside visits toall seriously and critically ill patients;
discusses specific problems with assigned nurses or physicians
Investigates complaints of patients and staff members;
resolves difficulties or refers to executive leadership;
utilizes and makes interpretations of existing policies as related to nursing care in specific departments;
reports unusual occurrences to superior;
strives to establish and maintain good relations and good morale among all assigned personnel
Performs all other related duties as required
