Job Description
UM, Capital Region,a member of theUniversity of Maryland Medical Systemis looking for anAdvanced Practice Practitioner to join the Neuroscience team to meet increasing clinical demand and expanding neuroscience roles at UM Capital Region Health located in its new state-of-the-art facility in Largo, MD.
Joins a multifaceted team that covers neurosurgery, neurocritical care, and elective neurosurgery cases.Advanced Practice Practitioner (APP) will be trained to cover all aspects of the neuroscience team.
Will have the opportunity to cross cover other APP lead service lines.
Performs routine and expanded job descriptions as listed in the provider's delegation agreement on file with the Maryland Board of Physicians or Maryland Board of Nursing. Under the direction of a physician, the APP will:
Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventivehealth care services to critically ill patients.
Obtain medical histories, examines patients, rounds daily,orders and interprets tests, makes initial diagnoses, and orders treatments.
Communicate effectively with attending physicians, other medical teams, team members, and patients and their families.
Administer therapeutic procedures such as placement of intracranial monitoring systems, extraventricular drains, VP shunt taps, suturing, and woundcare.
Instructs and counsels patients.
May first assist in the operating room when necessary.
Demonstrates competence and skill in required tasks and procedures.Demonstrates knowledge of and competency in required subspecialty.
Completes at least 50 hours of Category I CME every two years. Including 32 hours of trauma related CME.
Performs according to Maryland Board of Physician or Board of Nursing standards and expanded job description procedural protocols.
Facilitates excellence in quality assurance and the delivery of patient care as part of our High Reliability Organization.Provides optimal quality of patient care while following safety guidelines,
Maintains a procedurecomplication rate less than the national average.
Contributes to cohesive group relations;
uses open communicationto resolve problems in and between departments.
Demonstrates commitment to professional department and organizational core values.
