Job Description

MUSC is seeking a dedicated and experienced MRI Technologist to join our radiology team. The MRI Technologist will be responsible for operating MRI equipment to produce diagnostic images of patients' bodies for use by physicians. This role demands a high level of technical expertise, patient care skills, and adherence to safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform Diagnostic Imaging Procedures:

Operate MRI equipment to obtain high-quality images as requested by physicians.
Select appropriate imaging techniques and adjust parameters for each procedure.
Ensure the safety and comfort of patients during the MRI examination.
Patient Care:

Prepare patients for MRI procedures, explaining the process, answering questions, and addressing any concerns.
Position patients correctly to obtain optimal images while ensuring their comfort.
Monitor patients during imaging to ensure their well-being and safety.
Equipment Maintenance and Operation:

Perform regular maintenance and quality control checks on MRI equipment.
Troubleshoot and report any equipment malfunctions to ensure timely repairs and minimal downtime.
Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the MRI suite.
Documentation and Record-Keeping:

Accurately document patient information and imaging procedures in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
Collaboration and Communication:

Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to discuss imaging results and patient care.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff members.
Safety and Compliance:

Adhere to all safety protocols, including those related to MRI safety and infection control.
Stay current with continuing education requirements and maintain professional certifications.
Qualifications:

Education:

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field.


Licensure and Certification:

ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification in Radiography (R) and MRI (MR).
State licensure as required.
Experience:

Minimum of 2 years of experience as an MRI Technologist in a hospital or clinical setting is preferred.


Skills:

Proficiency in operating MRI equipment and producing diagnostic images.
Excellent patient care and communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols and procedures accurately.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:

Mobility:

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to assist patients in positioning for MRI procedures, which may involve lifting, moving, or adjusting patients and equipment.
Strength:

Must be able to lift and move patients and equipment as needed, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.


Manual Dexterity:

Proficient in handling and manipulating MRI equipment and computer systems.


Sensory Requirements:

Adequate visual and auditory acuity to operate equipment, monitor patients, and interpret imaging results.


Environmental Exposure:

Exposure to magnetic fields, requiring adherence to safety protocols to prevent accidents.
Potential exposure to infectious diseases, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and strict adherence to infection control guidelines.
