PROFILE OF A PANTHER EDUCATOR
Leaders with compassion, effective collaborators, adaptable thinkers, determined problem-solvers, and skilled communicators.
PRIMARY PURPOSE
Direct and manage overall campus operations. Responsible for leadership of the campus instructional programs ensuring high standards of instruction and student achievement, compliance with district policies, application of instructional programs, and effective operation of all campus activities.
ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in educational administration or a directly related field. Texas Principal Certification, One-Year Texas Principal Certification, or Texas Mid-Management Certification. Two (2) years experience as an assistant principal, associate principal, principal, or experience commensurate with campus/department leadership.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of instructional practices.
Knowledge of Texas Education Agency, University Interscholastic League, and District rules, regulations, and procedures.
Skill in resolving conflicts and interpersonal communication.
Skill in managing other campus leaders and teams, delegating tasks and responsibilities, and providing coaching and feedback to staff.
Skill in collaborating with peers, other campuses, and district personnel.
Skill in managing resources and knowledge of school finance and budget practices.
Skill in analyzing data, identifying problems, and developing long-term plans.
Skill in building consensus and credibility with the community, staff, and students.
Skill in identifying talent within the organization and developing staff.
Skill in making decisions and gathering input.
Ability to implement the district's vision, mission, strategic plan and graduate profile to guide and lead staff, students and parents for a successful school year
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Instructional Management
- Demonstrate knowledge of curriculum and instructional strategies and research bearing on the instructional practice of the campus.
- Design, implement, supervise, and evaluate instructional programs for the campus.
- Implement structures for staff collaboration and professional learning.
- Guide teams to collaboratively set measurable short-term goals with high expectations aligned to the campus vision.
- Monitor progress through campus-wide data in order to adjust strategies to accomplish the vision.
- Continuously analyze and work with staff to implement curriculum and instructional practices that meet the needs of all students.
- Ensure the application of technology as an instructional tool throughout the school.
Personnel Management
- Lead the recruitment, hire, induction, and placement of assigned staff.
- Support growth through timely, specific, and constructive feedback;
encourage self-reflection and critical conversations.
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of staff.
- Develop on-campus leadership capacity through the distribution of leadership roles and responsibilities.
- Guide the planning and implementation of professional development that increases efficiency and improves campus performance.
- Seek out professional development opportunities for self to increase effectiveness and improve campus performance.
- Recognize employees' efforts and accomplishments.
- Maintain appropriate documentation for employee contract recommendations.
Strategic Leadership
- Analyze data to identify critical priorities for campus.
- Collaboratively develop a shared and focused vision of campus success that aligns to campus and district-wide priorities.
- Utilize key data to develop, implement, and monitor a campus improvement plan that is aligned with the vision for the campus and with District goals.
- Recommend, implement, and administer campus procedures that follow district policies and all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Prepare, implement, and monitor the annual operating budget for the campus;
monitor activity accounts;
and operate within the budget.
- Promote high expectations for staff and students.
- Ensure the discipline management system and student code of conduct are administered consistently to promote effectiveness and student success.
- Use appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement in the school, including PTA, volunteers, booster clubs, and the community.
- Promote high expectations for staff and students.
- Create a culture that embodies creating champions in academics, character, and community.
- Leverages student leadership to make informed decisions on what is best for school improvement.
Operations
- Plan for and ensure student supervision and campus safety.
- Ensure that emergency and crisis plans are developed, communicated, and practiced and that equipment is operable.
- Manage all school facilities and equipment efficiently ensuring a clean, orderly, and safe building with the maximum use of space.
- Submit reports promptly and accurately.
- Ensure proper maintenance of student records.
- Facilitate opportunities within the school organization for students to participate in extra-curricular activities;
assure such activities are appropriately supported and monitored.
- Create structures for the efficient and effective dissemination of information.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.
MENTAL/PHYSICAL &
ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Work with frequent interruptions.
- Use a computer for prolonged periods resulting in repetitive hand motions.
- Travel district-wide frequently and statewide occasionally.
- Work extended and irregular hours.
- Lift and/or move up to 15 lbs. occasionally.
- Sit for extended periods of time.
