LAC Federal is seeking a part-time Metadata Specialist to maintain its enterprise metadata standards and help to optimize the value of metadata for knowledge discovery and analytical work related to key international topics (Climate, Digitalization, Anti-corruption, etc.) at an intergovernmental organization. The Metadata Specialist will contribute to several areas of Business Semantics Management for the organization. They will sustain and enhance enterprise metadata standards that support the organization's metadata governance objectives by providing cross-cutting metadata elements for knowledge and data management. The Metadata Specialist will facilitate metadata adoption and effectiveness in consultation with cross-functional data architects, analysts, and subject matter experts, and own or contribute to projects and initiatives that utilize metadata for content tagging and data analytics.
Responsibilities
Maintenance and enhancement of the enterprise metadata dashboard, in close collaboration with other KM specialists, with an eye towards continuous improvement and fit-for-purpose.
Engage business subject matter experts as needed, to refine and expand the scope of the metadata standards for audio-visual outputs and other types of digital assets.
Contribute to operational improvements with IT and other teams;
implement, enhance, or sustain workflows to streamline changes/updates to the metadata standards.
Build business requirements for an enterprise metadata management (EMM) system.
Collaborate with IT specialists to preserve data/metadata vintages (e.G., member country economic classifications) to support historical data analyses.
Participate in data readiness assessments during new platform implementations to help ensure metadata standards are adopted;
conduct audits to identify major discrepancies, inaccuracies and opportunities for further alignment or enhancements to the standards to meet business objectives.
Collaborate with other staff in KMU to establish and report on metadata success metrics, including in the context of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for IT implementations.
Apply technical knowledge to projects and initiatives that utilize the metadata standards, including for content tagging with the use of automated metadata extraction and enrichment (autoclassification) tools.
Collaborate with other KMU staff to respond to departmental requests for metadata outputs from content management systems to support country analytical work.
Help translate end user or project team requests into metadata-driven solutions and updates.
Coordinate the development of metadata-based analytical products/dashboards (e.G., to determine patterns in topic coverage, data reporting, economic policy advice, etc.).
Collaborate with other staff to foster data quality in knowledge graphs and other information sources by ensuring consistent metadata lineage between repositories and the enterprise ontology
Requirements
Mandatory Qualifications:

4-year college/bachelor's degree. Master’s degree preferred.
Background in Library/Information Science, Knowledge Management, Business Semantics Management, Economics, or other related fields
5+ years of experience in enterprise metadata governance and management to support a variety of systems and functions, both for front-end and back-end use (e.G., information retrieval, knowledge discovery, autoclassification, data fabric, analytics, or architecture).
Familiarity with digital asset management systems (DAM), content management systems (CMS) or Data Management systems
Prior experience with data/metadata management in international organizations is a plus
Ability to design, create and maintain metadata schema for content/data management, and for use by autoclassification tools
Familiarity with common international frameworks pertaining to metadata management, including Dublin Core, RDF (OWL), SKOS
Ability to interpret organizational needs and translate them into business or operational requirements for metadata management and implementation
An understanding of the relationship between metadata and ontologies, and metadata and taxonomies, and how they can be integrated
Familiarity with best-in-class semantic technologies, including enterprise metadata management tools, and how they are used to support enterprise metadata governance
Experience designing or managing business and operational processes or workflows that support metadata management or other work programs in the Knowledge Management domain
Ability to effectively plan and balance multiple project assignments
Understanding of how metadata benefits various business needs, including knowledge management and data analytics
Ability to clearly explain metadata principles and standards, and other technical or complex information in non-technical business terms
Ability to effectively engage with a wide range of business stakeholders in a multi-functional and multi-cultural organizational environment
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances
Team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills and listening skills
