Full job description
Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze medical records to ensure accurate coding and billing
- Assign appropriate ICD-10 codes to diagnoses and procedures
- Utilize knowledge of DRG (Diagnosis Related Group) coding to ensure proper reimbursement
- Verify and enter patient demographic and insurance information into billing system
- Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies electronically or by mail
- Follow up on unpaid claims and denials, and appeal if necessary
- Communicate with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies regarding billing inquiries or disputes
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations
Experience:
- Proficient in ICD-10 coding guidelines and procedures
- Familiarity with ICD-9 codes is a plus
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in coding and billing processes
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical billing software
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively
