Responsible for cost reduction / material deflation projects related to battery thermal management system used on battery electric locomotives.
Shall follow established cost out approaches like Functional Analysis System Technique (FAST), Should Cost Analysis as applicable to identify viable projects.
Execute cost out projects following Companys design review process.
Co-ordinate with Sourcing &
Manufacturing team to discuss ideas and implementation strategy of cost out projects on locomotive.
Responsible for selection of metallic and non-metallic material(s) as applicable to coolant piping, connections, and support structures.
Responsible for developing DFMEA, Verification and Validation plans as applicable to project.
Responsible for carrying out validation activities or support validation activities related to project in respective labs following Company process.
Additional General Design Responsibilities:

Lead and execute cost out projects, including design, analysis, validation, and production launch of such projects on locomotive.
Closely work alongside internal and external suppliers, addressing product change requests, quality concerns, and shop support.
Support manufacturing and supply chain to achieve high levels of manufacturability and manage drawing and model updates to address issues or implement improvements.
Responsible for defined work or projects with moderate to high complexity. Follow an individual work plan and meet day-to-day short-term objectives. Display the ability to resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning.
Support multiple work assignments by establishing, maintaining, and working to proper priorities.
Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers.
Document and communicate results of technical data generated through testing or analysis
Participate on teams assigned to address specific organizational initiatives.
Share information and promote open dialogue.
Prepare invention disclosures to protect the technology that provides a competitive advantage to the business.
Qualifications:

5+ years of demonstrated experience in the field of mechanical engineering, with relevant experience on Liquid cooled thermal management systems.
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field.
Experience and demonstrated proficiency with:
liquid cooled thermal management;
related component specification, selection, and design.
Designing piping system for engine cooling, power electronics cooling or battery cooling systems. Knowledge of packaging requirements related to high voltage equipment.
Experience with heat transfer through conduction, natural convection, and forced convection applications and related techniques.
3D CAD Modeling tools.
Finite element simulation tools for mechanical loads, such as Ansys.
Must be able to work in and around large pieces of ground transportation equipment, in a heavy industrial manufacturing setting, and in a heavy industrial laboratory environment.
Must be able to set up instrumentation and test apparatus and conduct validation testing on large industrial transportation and mining vehicles.
Strong oral, written communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
