Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer reports to the Repair Station Manager and is responsible for planning directing and coordinating the activities of the maintenance and tooling departments while facilitating efficient manufacturing operations across the organization. The manufacturing engineer will also manage and supervise the machine technicians.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the machining department.
Works closely with the production supervisor to oversee the daily workflow of the department.
Provides constructive feedback and timely performance evaluations.
Handles discipline of employees in accordance with company policies.
Provides technical leadership for all assigned equipment while leading in engineering projects for process/products to maintain quality of aerospace products.
Leads in the training and development of programs and methods to optimize productivity, reduce cycle time, manufacturing losses and overall shop cost.
Evaluates test and performance data;
designs and integrates improved capabilities into existing and new equipment while applying analytical and computational techniques to problem solving.
Provides the focus for customer support and response to customer identified problems.
Provides engineering support to assist shop personnel in process design changes including implementing new designs, repairs, and refining present processes.
Provides training and development to all Machine Technicians.
Provides set-up and tool replacement to machines as needed.
Sets up programs on machines and measuring equipment to provide adherence to quality standards and material removal guidelines.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Strong understanding of manufacturing engineering, plant engineering, and tooling.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to details
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Ability to work independently in a high stress environment.
Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience.
Education Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field (or a high school diploma/GED with at least 5 years of engineering experience) with an additional 3 years related manufacturing experience with CAD, CNC and standard machine tools.
Physical Demands:
Periods of long standing and/or sitting, heavy lifting, bending, and eye fatigue.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Working Conditions:
Works in a controlled climate.
Small amounts of machine noise.
Occasionally works around hazardous chemicals.
PPE required.
