Job Description
The Manager of Career and College Advising (MCCA) prepares KIPP alumni to successfully matriculate to postsecondary pathways that will lead them to careers of highest aspiration. Using data analysis and effective counseling strategies, the MCCA guides students through various parts of the process including wishlist creation, application completion, FAFSA submission, and enrollment decision-making. The MCCA also facilitates the Countdown to College summer program, which prepares rising Seniors for the upcoming year. Throughout the year, the MCCA works closely with the students’ high schools, parents and community organizations to ensure that all alumni have the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to enter and persist in their post-secondary pathways. The MCCA reports to the Director of KIPP Forward.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Manager of Career and College Advising responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Advising approximately 90 Seniors attending area high schools (70%)Conduct outreach and form relationships with students using strategies such as:
High school visits
Cold calls to students and families
Text messages
Email
Create balanced post-secondary wishlists that reflect students’ interests and career aspirations (fit), academic profiles (match), and financial fit
Support students in developing and implementing application completion plans
Guide students and families through the federal, state, institutional and private financial aid processes
Assist students in college admission exam preparation and registration
Collaborate and communicate with families, high school counselors, colleges, CTE programs and external partners to best support the student throughout the application and matriculation process.
Host events or small group gatherings to support students with tasks such as FAFSA and application completion
Help students and families analyze post-secondary offers and financial aid award letters to make best-fit matriculation decisions
Execute the transition plan with the Alumni Persistence team to ensure a continuity of support as students begin their post-secondary programs.
Continuously stay informed on college, career and job training programs in Maryland to provide students with most up-to-date and relevant advising.
Collecting and analyzing alumni data (15%)Manage alumni data in the KIPP Database including contact notes and application progress
Participate in alumni data analysis meetings, inclusive of regional match meetings
Regularly review caseload data and progress toward goals, then use the analysis to inform strategy and next steps
Create and maintain student benchmarks that capture student career aspirations, academic match, and financial profile.
Supporting the Countdown to College Summer Program (15%)Assist with recruiting 11th grade alumni to participate in the program
Engage in program planning throughout the Spring
Lead in the summer curriculum development and personnel training
Manage summer program instructors and support curriculum implementation
Act as one of the leaders of the summer program, helping with daily program execution and management
Serving as a full-time and engaged member of KIPP Baltimore’s staff.Meet regularly with the KIPP Forward Director as well as the KIPP Forward Team.
Develop positive, appropriate relationships with current students and alumni as well as with fellow staff members
Support team events such as alumni reunions
Attend, and actively participate in, all regional staff meetings
Other duties as assigned by KIPP Forward Director
