At the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center (UM SJMC), the Magnet Nursing Program Coordinator cultivates a professional practice environment, by coordinating the Magnet process and leading the institution to Magnet designation. This position assists the Director of Nursing Practice and Center for Clinical Excellence in identifying nursing quality indicators, developmental needs, performance improvement, research initiatives and other activities that sustain and advance a culture of excellence. The Magnet Program Coordinator serves as an ambassador of the Magnet program at UM SJMC employing a variety of communication strategies. This position collaborates with nurse leaders and staff, both within the institution and outside of the institution using the ANCC Magnet framework of excellence to create and implement innovative staff engagement, systems and processes. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
Prepares, revises, and maintains all documents and timeline requirements related to the Magnet Recognition Program®Responsible for submitting applications and interim monitoring reports.
Collects, or facilitates the collection of supporting evidence, data and documentation for the Magnet program.
Develops a timeline, with milestones, for data submission and ensures that members of the organization comply with timelines and data submission requirements.
Maintains current knowledge of Magnet designation/re-designation standards and requirements.
Maintains current knowledge of national clinical practice standards and standards of practice from all regulatory agencies including the Magnet Recognition Program®, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), The Joint Commission (TJC), etc.
Acts as a liaison with all departments within UM SJMC to promote nursing excellence and further the Magnet program philosophy.
Provides a systematic approach to Magnet project management and implementation, coordinating all phases of designation and re-designation.
Uses in depth assessment and analysis to determine organizational readiness for Magnet designation/re-designation. Accountable for analyses, summarization, and presentation of data reports, statistics, and other materials to sustain and advance Magnet Recognition Program designation and re-designation status.
Supports the Division of Nursing in the management of the NDNQI database, NDNQI data entry, demographic data, and implementation of nurse satisfaction surveys. Serves as the UM SJMC site coordinator for the National Database for Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI).
Works collaboratively with clinical and support departments, and nursing leadership to close identified gaps and to improve systems and processes to assure compliance with Magnet designation/re-designation criteria.
Implements change management strategies to ensure successful execution of the Magnet program at UM SJMC. Coordinates and evaluates programs and activities to advance a culture of excellence, including special events, ongoing Magnet campaign and various communication strategies. Recommends changes in the clinical practice environment to governance councils and leadership which may be required to sustain Magnet Recognition Program® designation.
Assumes an active role in promoting professional and other work environment initiatives in collaboration with the Center for Clinical Excellence, e.G., engages and mentors nurses to advance publications and presentations.
Creates an environment of motivation and commitment to the Magnet philosophy through celebration and continuous communication of the Magnet requirements.
Collaborates with key constituents to develop operational and marketing plans related to the Magnet Recognition Program® designation and re-designation process.
Presents findings from organizational assessments and disseminates information in a variety of forms (oral, electronic, and written) to ensure an accurate and timely flow of information to advance Magnet Recognition Program ® designation and re-designation.
Coordinates timely notification to the Magnet Program Office re:
leadership changes, critical events and other communication required to maintain designation status in good standing.
Provides leadership for and participates in unit, divisional, departmental and /or interdepartmental committees, and community and professional organizations related to Magnet Recognition Program® designation and re-designation.
Contributes to the achievement of established Center for Clinical Excellence departmental goals and objectives. Adheres to department policies, procedures, quality, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and other regulatory agencies’ standards.
Collaborates with and participates in a Magnet Coordinators Network.
Recruits Magnet Champions, develops standard work, and providers leadership, knowledge, and resources in collaboration with the Director of Nursing Practice and Center for Clinical Excellence
Participates in the organizational development of nursing outcomes required by the Magnet program. Monitors and interprets data and facilitates the development and implementation of innovative strategies to improve outcomes.
Provides direction for development, implementation and maintenance of Magnet orientation programs for both licensed and unlicensed nursing staff.
Attends workshops and other educational programs, to ensure awareness of current developments and trends in the Magnet program. Stays up-to-date with professional organizations standards and submit abstracts to national conferences.
Develops and implements an operations budget for the Magnet program with management approval.
Performs other duties as assigned
