Stronger consulting - Ross
new offer (01/05/2024)

job description

Next Generation Scholars equips and empowers first generation, under-resourced Marin County middle and high school students to succeed in college and beyond through socially-conscious leadership development.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Student Learning Opportunity:
NGS’ 2024 Summer Programs are, above all else, interdisciplinary. Students will be exposed to diverse instructors, courses, disciplinary approaches, and research techniques that will enhance course materials. This interdisciplinary approach will give students the skills necessary to integrate ideas from different perspectives and the ability to thoroughly comprehend rich topics.
This program will foster abstract and concrete connections between different bodies of knowledge by examining its changing relations across different cultures and times. The emphasis on connecting diverse fields of study will give students a framework of analysis to assist their future education. This program aims to enrich the students’ abilities to independently formulate difficult questions while empowering them to navigate academic spaces meaningfully and gain sustainable college strategies and beyond.
Staff Development Opportunity:
NGS has placed an incomparable value on lifelong readiness and success for all community members, including staff. Our Summer Programs have, historically, been composed mainly of historically marginalized people who reflect our students and their families:
low-income, first-generation, and people of color. It is an environment for educators, no matter where they are in their career, to develop culturally relevant personal and professional practices that are for their students AND for themselves.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead Teachers are responsible for lead teaching as well as acting as a Grade-Level Advisor during the Summer Academy Program (June 24th-July 26th). They report to a Senior Teacher, and will manage the Associate Teachers on the grade as the acting Team Lead and Advisor. The Lead Teacher is responsible for overseeing the planning and facilitation of advisory blocks, as well as collecting the student progress reports and teaching deliverables from the Associate Teachers on their grade level. Currently the Summer Academy Program is seeking Lead Teachers ideally for 9th, 10th, and 11th grade.
Lead Teachers must also be available for Staff Training (June 10 - 21, 2024). During this training period, all staff will learn program logistics, complete lesson planning and set up, and give 1-2 mock lessons. Lead Teachers should be prepared to come to the Staff Training with lesson planning materials for their classes. These plans need to be approved in advance by the Dean of Summer Programs, prior to the start of the training.
During the Summer Academy Program, Lead Teachers must report from 9AM - 3:
30PM, Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri and 9AM - 4:
30PM, Wed (for Staff Meeting).
