Job Description
Timmons Group is currently seeking a Land Planner I/II to join our Raleigh, NC office. The Land Planner is responsible for assisting with the entitlement phase of private land development projects. The Land Planner will analyze site conditions, regulations, and community needs to develop layouts for residential, commercial, or recreational spaces.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:
Executes project design and production using relevant office software, such as MS Office, AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, GIS
Conducts research and writes summary reports which are used in the completion of project work, including the preparation of recommendations regarding engineering and planning needs for each project
Assists in the preparation of engineering and planning-level cost estimates
Completes field observation, inspection, and data collection duties as directed by managing staff members
Prepare and review interim and final planning documents, including writing, mapping, and graphic design and ensure consistency with local codes and regulations
Assist the project team with drawings, drafting, and preparation of plans while demonstrating knowledge of the general concepts of planning, architecture, and design
Works under the supervision of Engineers, Planners, Landscape Architects, Project Managers, or other staff for assigned projects
Provide leadership and represent clients in zoning cases, including the public engagement and public hearing processes
Coordinate with infrastructure planning/design, land development, and landscape architecture groups regarding projects to ensure smooth design process for approval
Coordinate work on multiple concurrent projects to meet required deadlines
Attend public, stakeholder, and various technical committee meetings, including occasional evening and weekend meetings
Perform other duties as assigned
Skills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:
Bachelor of Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture (BLA), Engineering or related degree,
2-4+ years of experience in planning, ideally related to public/private land development, public infrastructure, and/or community development related projects
EIT or AICP Certification (or ability to obtain) preferred
Excellent communication and management skills
Strong, creative graphics skills, and ability to distill complex information into public-facing materials
Proficiency with office software (Word/Excel), AutoCAD Civil 3D, Arc GIS, and/or Adobe Creative Suite
Understanding of design, details, and construction drawing preparation including site layout, grading, hardscape, drainage, and planting
