The GNU Group is aggressively looking for a Junior Environmental Graphic Designer to support the design and documentation for environmental branding, architectural signage, and wayfinding solutions for our clients. This role is an entry-level position at GNU Group that actively supports the designers in the planning, design and documenting of Architectural Sign Programs, Integrated Branding Programs and Wayfinding Programs for exterior and interior built environments.
This support role will position the individual as a future critical team member assigned to industry-leading projects in the healthcare, retail, corporate, hospitality, and mixed-use sectors. You will work closely with a cross-functional team to develop and execute designs and will be responsible for completing assigned tasks.
While our preference is to have team members based in our Pleasant Hill office, we have adapted to a hybrid workforce and will consider hybrid options once onboarding is complete for a candidate with the right qualifications.
The annual salary for this nonexempt position ranges from $45,000 to 57,500, based on the candidate's experience level.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop design and documentation packages for signage, wayfinding, and environmental branding projects that meet the project goals and requirements.
Collaborate with the design team, project managers, and clients to ensure that the designs are consistent with the project vision and brand guidelines.
Participate in design reviews and provide feedback on other team members' designs.
Coordinate with the PM and Design Team to understand client needs and desires and help to implement strategic design solutions.
On-site visits to document site audits and punch walks
Help to create design concept and design intent packages that include specifications, materials, and locations for signage, wayfinding and branding elements.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field
0 -2 years active experience in Environmental Graphic Design
Strong sense of design and good typographic skills
Concepting and sketching skills
Fluent with Adobe Creative Suite
3D/SketchUp is a plus
Revit experience is a plus
Sign Agent Pro experience is a plus
Ability to read and interpret architectural plans
Good communications skills for both internal and external purposes
Ability to present work both internally (firm facing) and externally (client facing)
Solid foundation in understanding of materials usage, scale, lighting, and construction of environmental graphics
Solid foundation in understanding of ADA and other accessibility and fire safety codes

Design Fundamentals:
Solid foundation in design principles and fundamentals, including color theory, typography, layout, and composition. Create visually appealing designs that are effective in communicating the intended message to the target audience.
Software Proficiency:
Good understanding of design software, including Adobe Creative Suite and Sketch, and be able to use them effectively. They should also be familiar with other tools and resources that are commonly used in the industry.
Eagerness to Learn:
Eager to learn and improve their skills continuously. Open to feedback and be willing to take on new challenges to develop their skills and expand their expertise.
Communication:
Good communication skills and able to articulate their ideas and designs effectively. Collaborate with other team members and work well in a team environment.
Time Management:
Good time management skills and able to prioritize their tasks effectively. Work on multiple projects and meet deadlines while ensuring the quality of their work.
Attention to Detail:
Strong attention to detail and able to review and check their work thoroughly. Ensure the accuracy and quality of their designs, as well as comply with the project requirements and standards.
