Intermittent Aquatics Instructor (Recreational Sports)

Definition and Purpose:

Under the supervision of the Coordinator – Aquatics and Safety, the Intermittent Aquatics Instructors teach a variety of classes currently offered within the Group Exercise and Instructional Class Program. The staff is responsible for developing individual lesson plans, being familiar with various styles of class formats offered, supervising class participants, and leading instructional sessions.
Requirements
Educational and Qualifying Experience, Skills, Licenses, Credentials
Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, muscular function, exercise program implementation, safe group exercise, or instructional procedures and use of related class materials and/or equipment.
Professional instructor certification in related field or prior training preferred
Ability to be highly organized and have good planning skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work with diverse populations and those with special limitations or needs.
Extensive knowledge of classes being taught.
Understanding of current trends in area of expertise.
Previous experience in supervising and meeting participants in an instructional environment.
Ability to learn new formats.
Consistent attendance at continuing education workshops, lectures, and conferences.
Completion of Child Abuse Training prior to instructing any programs involving minors.
Completion of Live Scan screening prior to instructing any programs involving minors.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise class participants.
Lead exercise/instructional sessions/classes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain familiarity with evacuation plan for work area.
Attend all mandatory meetings, workshops, and retreats.
Provide quality customer service for all staff and customers
Maintain prompt hours and follow absence procedures
Maintain a working relationship with staff and co-workers.
Adhere to and enforce all ASI departmental policies and procedures.
Commitment to student development and leadership.
Develop individual lesson plans.
Maintain instructional area at all times.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
The person holding this position is considered a "
Mandated reporter"
under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in ASI policy as a condition of their employment.

This position is subject to a background check (including criminal records) as well as National Address Locater (Social Security Number [SSN] Trace), 7 year County Criminal Search in each county and/or state the applicant lived in based on the SSN Trace, National Criminal Database Search, Name Search, Employment Verification (All employers in past 7 years) and Education Verification (Highest Degree). Intermittent employees may not work more than 1,000 hours during any fiscal year (7/1-6/30) and are hired on an “as needed” basis only.
Compensation and Hours
Hourly Pay Rate:
$22.50 per hour while instructing, $16.00 per hour for trainings, meetings, and prep time.
Hourly Pay Range:
$16.00 per hour - $22.50 per hour
Position may require morning, late night, weekend, and vacation availability
Requires summer availability
