Summary:
Queens University of Charlotte invites a biologist trained in the area of conservation biology and GIS to apply for a two-year visiting faculty position in the Biology &
Chemistry Department ofthe College of Arts and Sciences. This position will begin in August 2024.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a collaborative group of STEM faculty and faculty development professionals who emphasize inclusive, high-quality teaching through the use of practices such as course-embedded research, writing intensive experiences, and gamification. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to teach courses in GIS, introductory biology, conservation, writing-intensive courses, and/or General Education “science and society” courses.
This teaching-focused position is designed to allow recent master’s-level or PhD graduates an opportunity to gain experience in undergraduate teaching and course development with the support of faculty mentors. The person in this position will be able to participate in a variety of enrichment and faculty development opportunities, including Quality Matters training, direct work with instructional design support to develop online teaching modules, and engagement with a vibrant faculty development office offering programming and faculty learning communities throughout the year.
The Visiting Faculty position reports to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. This position is exempt from provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not eligible to earn overtime pay or compensatory time off for additional hours worked. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required
A master’s degree or PhD in biology with a focus in conservation biology, ecology, or environmental science
Experience using GIS
Evidence of some prior experience as an instructor, teaching assistant, or tutor
Commitment to cultivating STEM learning environments that foster a sense of belonging for all students
