Job Description
Examples of essential duties of this position include but are not limited to:
Responsibility for planning, conducting and evaluating original epidemiological and/or evaluation proposals and studies to determine patterns of health outcomes and their determinants in the community.
Designs and implements survey and evaluation instruments and study protocols for data collection and analysis.
May supervise and train staff including epidemiologists to assist with the design, implementation, and evaluation of data. This includes assigning and reviewing the data coding, computer programming, data collection and other aspects of data management performed by subordinates.
Establishes, develops, coordinates and maintains data systems including public health surveillance to identify and monitor disease trends and risk behaviors among various populations, as well as evaluates clinical and public health interventions and policies by creating and/or manipulating databases of original/secondary data.
Performs complex data analysis using statistical software packages (such as SAS, ARCGIS, R) and interprets findings.
Recommends procedures for the control and prevention of disease and the promotion of health outcomes by assessing the evidence base .
May include analyzing the impact of planned interventions on the health status of target populations.
Provides technical consultation/assistance to departmental staff on epidemiologic research or program evaluation methodology by designing and coordinating research efforts with departmental staff and key partners. This includes reviewing protocols, proposals, instruments, presentations and papers.
Prepares reports, presentations and scientific papers based on hypotheses and findings. Communicates epidemiologic information to multiple audiences and prepares study findings for dissemination and publication.
May write project and grant proposals.
Collaborates with internal staff and external agencies. Participates in conferences, meetings and seminars relating to the causation, spread and prevention of diseases and health outcomes. Presents findings at community and scientific meetings and conferences as needed.
Supports data collection and analysis for program evaluation and quality improvement activities within the department.
The 2803 Epidemiologist II also performs other related duties as assigned
